François Regnard
François Regnard (or Regnart; Douai, fl. 1570s) was a French Renaissance composer. He was one of five composer brothers of whom the best known was Jacques or Jacob Regnart who spent most of his career in the service of Habsburg emperors Maximilian II and Rudolf II and Archduke Ferdinand in Vienna, Prague and Innsbruck. Douai
Douai (, , ,; pcd, Doï; nl, Dowaai; formerly spelled Douay or Doway in English) is a city in the Nord département in northern France. It is a sub-prefecture of the department. Located on the river Scarpe some from Lille and from Arras, Douai is home to one of the region's most impressive belfries. History Its site probably corresponds to that of a 4th-century Roman fortress known as Duacum. From the 10th century, the town was a romance fiefdom of the counts of Flanders. The town became a flourishing textile market centre during the Middle Ages, historically known as Douay or Doway in English. Calliope (record Label)
Calliope is a French classical record label originally based in Compiègne. It was founded in 1972 by Jacques Le Calvé, a record shop owner, upon the encouragement of Erato Records producer Michel Garcin. The label was named after Calliope, the muse of epic poetry and mother of Orpheus, and not the calliope organ. Its artists included the organists André Isoir and Louis Thiry and Jean-Claude Casadesus with the Orchestre de Lille. Joël Suhubiette
Joël Suhubiette (born in 1962) is a contemporary French choral conductor. In particular, he conducts the chamber choir Les Éléments which he founded in Toulouse and with which he received a Victoire de la musique classique in 2006 and the Ensemble Jacques Moderne in Tours. Biography Born in 1962 in Orthez, Suhubiette played the piano very early. He then went on to undertake musical studies at the . He joined the early music department where he studied singing with John Elwes and Guillemette Laurens. Egidius Kwartet
The Egidius Kwartet is a Dutch vocal ensemble specialising in the music of the Franco-Flemish school, in particular of the Habsburgs, Margaret of Austria, governor of the Netherlands and her court at Mechelen. The ensemble was formed by four members of Ton Koopman's Amsterdam Baroque Choir in 1995. The group's name is taken from Aegidius, a character in Dutch medieval literature, a minstrel lamented in the song Egidius waer bestu bleven (though the name also reflects Maître Egidius of the Chantilly Codex, as well as the Dutch name of Gilles Binchois). Charles Regnart
Charles Regnart (1759 – 19 November 1844) was an English sculptor, specialising in funerary monuments. His masterpiece is said to be the 17th century-style recumbent figure of George Rush in the parish church in Farthinghoe. The figure shows Rush in old age, lying with his slippers on, clutching a Bible and staring to heaven. Regnart flourished from 1790 until 1830. His style has been described as "pseudo-Classical" and is typified by much folded drapery and an overall pattern of white (usually a draped funerary urn or casket) against a black background. Life He was born in Bristol, the son of Philip Regnart (1739–1805), a carver and statue maker from Flanders who had worked under Thomas Ricketts of Gloucester, and who claimed descent from the Gothic chief Raginhart who sacked Rome with Alaric.
