Francisco Da Silva (painter)
Francisco Domingos "Chico" da Silva (1910 – 1985) was a Brazilian painter associated with naïve art and modernist Brazilian painting. Da Silva is considered one of the first Brazilian artists of indigenous heritage to achieve prominence in Brazil and abroad. Early life and background Francisco da Silva, widely known as Chico da Silva, was born to an Indigenous Peruvian father and a Brazilian mother from Ceará, northeastern Brazil. His early years were spent in the Amazon forest, where he was exposed to the rich local flora and fauna. After the death of his father, a boatman, from a rattlesnake bite, Chico moved with his mother to Fortaleza. Artistic career Chico began his career as a self-taught artist, initially painting birds on fishermen's houses using charcoal, chalk, and natural pigments. Naïve Art
Naïve art is usually defined as visual art that is created by a person who lacks the formal education and training that a professional artist undergoes (in anatomy, art history, technique, perspective, ways of seeing). When this aesthetic is emulated by a trained artist, the result is sometimes called '' primitivism'', ''pseudo-naïve art'', or ''faux naïve art''. Unlike folk art, naïve art does not necessarily derive from a distinct popular cultural context or tradition; indeed, at least in the advanced economies and since the Printing Revolution, awareness of the local fine art tradition has been inescapable, as it diffused through popular prints and other media. São Paulo Art Biennial
The São Paulo Art Biennial (Portuguese: ''Bienal de São Paulo'') was founded in 1951 and has been held every two years since. It is the second oldest art biennial in the world after the Venice Biennale (in existence since 1895), which serves as its role model. Lygia Pape
Lygia Pape (7 April 1927 – 3 May 2004) was a Brazilian visual artist, sculptor, engraver, and filmmaker, who was a key figure in the Concrete art, Concrete movement and a later co-founder of the Neo-Concrete Movement in Brazil during the 1950s and 1960s. Along with Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark, she was an important artist in the expansion of contemporary art in Brazil and pushed geometric art to include aspects of interaction and to engage with ethical and political themes. Lygia Clark
Lygia Pimentel Lins (23 October 1920 – 25 April 1988), better known as Lygia Clark, was a Brazilian artist best known for her painting and installation work. She was often associated with the Brazilian Constructivist movements of the mid-20th century and the Tropicalia movement. Along with Brazilian artists Amilcar de Castro, Franz Weissmann, Lygia Pape and poet Ferreira Gullar, Clark co-founded the Neo-Concrete movement. From 1960 on, Clark discovered ways for viewers (who would later be referred to as "participants") to interact with her art works. Hélio Oiticica (; July 26, 1937 – March 22, 1980) was a Brazilian visual artist, sculptor, painter, performance artist, and theorist, best known for his participation in the Neo-Concrete Movement, for his innovative use of color, and for what he later termed "environmental art", which included ''Parangolés'' and ''Penetrables,'' like the famous ''Tropicália.'' Mira Schendel (June 7, 1919 – July 24, 1988) was a Brazilian contemporary artist of the 20th century. She made numerous drawings on rice paper, but was also active as a painter, a poet, and a sculptor.
