Francisco Miguel Duarte
Francisco Miguel Duarte, also known by the nickname Chico Sapateiro (18 December 1907 – 21 May 1988) was a Portuguese writer and a regional leader in the Portuguese Communist Party. He was a poet, whose principal subjects are revolution and the Portuguese people. Among his best known works is a poem in honor of the memory of Catarina Eufémia, his fellow countrywoman, since the author, like Eufémia, was a native of Baleizão, a village near Beja in the south of Portugal. He is also known for his book '' Das Prisões à Liberdade''. Imprisonment He was the leader of the regional committee of the Portuguese Communist Party in Algarve. His imprisonment in 1947 seriously weakened that provincial organization. The Portuguese Communist Party ( pt, Partido Comunista Português, , PCP) is a communist, Marxist–Leninist political party in Portugal based upon democratic centralism. Fort Of King Luís I
The Fort of King Luís I (''Forte D. Luís I''), also referred to as the Fort of Caxias (''Forte de Caxias'') and the Fort-prison of Caxias (''Forte-prisão de Caxias''), is located in the parish of Caxias, in the municipality of Oeiras in the Lisbon district of Portugal. It presently functions as a prison. Built between 1879 and 1886 it was intended as one of a number of forts, known as the '' Campo Entrincheirado'' of Lisbon, that formed a defensive perimeter that followed the boundaries of Lisbon at the time. It consisted of two separate strongholds, the north and the south. Originally called the Fort of Caxias, it was renamed as the Fort of King Luís I in 1901 in honour of the king who died in 1889. The fort was first used as a prison in 1916 when a group of soldiers who mutinied were arrested. Armed Revolutionary Action
The Armed Revolutionary Action (ARA) was the armed arm of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), as a semi-autonomous organization that was active from 1970 to 1973, under the ''Estado Novo'' dictatorship then led by Marcelo Caetano. The first meeting of the Central Committee of the PCP on the use of violence as an action of self-defense took place in December 1962, and marked the Party's position on this issue, seeking to relate it to mass actions. Violence was not excluded, and could be used in the paradigm of the "national uprising", as long as it was directed by the Party, and in a context of radicalization and intensification of the mass struggle, which could lead to a revolutionary environment. In 1964, the PCP decided to create the "special actions," and in 1965, the nucleus, composed of Raimundo Narciso and Rogério de Carvalho, goes to Cuba to take a course on military training. 1975 Portuguese Legislative Election
Constituent Assembly elections were carried out in Portugal on 25 April 1975, exactly one year after the Carnation Revolution. The election elected all 250 members of the Portuguese Constituent Assembly. It was the first free election held in Portugal since 1925, and only the seventh free election in all of Portuguese history. Turnout was a record 91.66 percent, which remains (as of 2022) the highest ever in any Portuguese democratic elections (General, Regional, Local or European). The main aim of the election was the election of a Constituent Assembly, in order to write a new constitution to replace the Estado Novo regime's authoritarian Constitution of 1933 and so this freely-elected parliament had a single-year mandate and no government was based on parliamentary support; the country continued to be governed by a military-civilian provisional administration during the deliberations of the Constituent Assembly. Cadeia Do Aljube
Cadeia do Aljube is a former prison in Lisbon, Portugal, now serving as a museum. Situated near the Sé Cathedral in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, the prison housed those convicted through the Ecclesiastical Forum until 1820, then women accused of common crimes until the end of the 1920s. From 1928 until its closure in 1965, political prisoners of the ''Ditadura Nacional'' and '' Estado Novo'' were held there.
