Francisco Gabriel Guerrero
Francisco Gabriel Guerrero (born 23 August 1977, in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine former football player who played as striker. Career Guerrero advanced from the U-20 team to Independiente's first team in 1994. In 2001 he was transferred to Switzerland and joined FC Zurich under head coach Georges Bregy. He played with them on occasion, but not regularly. After two and a half seasons he was loaned out. On 12 February 2004 he signed a half-year loan contract with FC Basel. The club were looking for replacements for the two Swiss internationals Marco Streller and Hakan Yakin who both transferred to VfB Stuttgart. Guerrero joined Basel's first team during their 2003–04 season under head coach Christian Gross. Guerrero was the fourth Argentinian in the team, joining Christian Giménez, Matías Delgado and Julio Hernán Rossi. BSC Young Boys (YB by short abbreviation ) are a Swiss sports club based in Bern, Switzerland. Its first team has won 15 Swiss league championships and six Swiss Cups. Stadion Neufeld is a multi-use stadium in Bern, Switzerland. It is the home ground of FC Bern and the junior team of BSC Young Boys. Julio Hernan Rossi (born 22 February 1977) is an Argentinian former football striker. Football career Early years Julio Hernán Rossi began his professional career at Argentinian club Club Atlético River Plate in July 1995, as he advanced from their youth team to their first team. During his time with River Plate he had a six month unsuccessful loan spell at J1 League side Avispa Fukuoka. Matías Emilio Delgado (born 15 December 1982) is a retired Argentine footballer who last played as an attacking midfielder for Swiss Super League Club FC Basel. Club career Early career Delgado started his career in the youth team of River Plate. Christian Eduardo Giménez (born 13 November 1974) is an Argentine former footballer who played as a striker. Career Born in Buenos Aires, Giménez started his career as a 17-year-old in the Argentine lower leagues, playing for Club Atlético San Miguel. In 1995, he was signed by the Boca Juniors, but he only played for them for one season before being loaned out to fellow Argentine team Nueva Chicago. In 1997, Boca Juniors sold Giménez to Swiss team FC Lugano, in 2001 he was sold to fellow Swiss outfit FC Basel. Giménez made his debut for Basel on 18 July 2001 in the 3–3 draw with St. Gallen and his first goal for the club followed during the 3–1 home win against the Young Boys on 11 August. Christian Gross
Christian Jürgen Gross (born 14 August 1954) is a Swiss football manager and former player who most recently coached Schalke 04. He played as a sweeper and central midfielder. Gross was manager of Basel from 1 July 1999 to 27 May 2009, winning four Swiss Super Leagues and four Swiss Cups. As manager of Tottenham Hotspur between November 1997 and September 1998, Gross became the first Swiss to manage in the Premier League. Playing career Gross began his playing career at SV Höngg before moving to Grasshopper in 1965, which he left in 1976. 2003–04 FC Basel Season
The 2003–04 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 111th in existence and the club's 10th consecutive season in the Nationalliga A, the top flight of Swiss football. Basel played their home games in the newly constructed St. Jakob-Park complex. Local businessman Werner Edelmann was the club's chairman for the second consecutive season. The Club's main aims for the 2003–04 season were to regain the league title and, as cup holders, to retain their cup title. The third aim was to remain in the UEFA Cup as long as possible.
