Fox Hollies
Fox Hollies is an area of Birmingham, England, situated on the edge of Acocks Green district. It is named after the Fox Hollies Hall estate. It roughly includes the area around Fox Hollies Road (part of the A4040 Outer Ring Road), stretching from Acocks Green in the north, to Hall Green in the south. A showpiece housing estate was built to the east of Fox Hollies Road in the 1920s, around Fox Hollies Park. There was also a pub called the Fox Hollies at the junction of Fox Hollies Road and Olton Boulevard East, but this closed in 1997 and has since been demolished to make way for a supermarket. Until 2004, one of the Birmingham City Council wards was named Fox Hollies. This area is now divided between the Acocks Green and Springfield wards. Acocks Green
Acocks Green is an area and ward of southeast Birmingham, England. It is named after the Acock family, who built a large house there in 1370. Acocks Green is one of four wards making up Yardley formal district. It is occasionally spelled "Acock's Green". It has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. Stockfield was once a separate village located in the north of the ward. It merged with Acocks after housing developments during the 20th century. The ward now covers an area , including the Edenbridge Road Estate, Gospel Estate, Pemberley Road Flats, Stockfield Estate, part of the Tyseley Estate and the Yarnfield Estate. Fox Hollies Hall
Fox Hollies Hall was a manor house situated in Acocks Green, Fox Hollies, Birmingham, England, belonging to the Walker family. The Hall itself was built as a mock- Italianate in 1869 to replace the nearby Hyron Hall, and was commissioned by a retired merchant, Zaccheus Walker III. His father, Zaccheus Walker II, was an industrialist who was almost killed in the French Revolution had it not have been for his friendship with Robespierre. By 1880, Zaccheus' health was deteriorating, and the Hall passed into the ownership of his son, Lieutenant-Colonel Zaccheus Walker IV, who was working as a draftsman at this time. Lt. Col. Walker was the chairperson of many local Boards and Committees, who helped to organise outings for children in the local schools, and after buying land close to the Hall in 1912, sold off a majority of the land between 1925 and 1926, at a total of £44,746; and the sales of land helped the village of Acocks Green to expand into an urbanized community. Hall Green is an area in southeast Birmingham, England, synonymous with the B28 postcode. It is also a council constituency, managed by its own district committee. Historically it lay within the county of Worcestershire. Springfield is a ward in south east Birmingham, England, created in 2004 from much of the old Sparkhill ward. It is a part of the formal district of Hall Green. Places of interest The area is served by the Sparkhill Library that has, with its distinctive clock tower, developed into a local landmark. Spring Road Railway Station
Spring Road is a small railway station in the Acocks Green area of Birmingham, England. It is situated on the North Warwickshire Line, between Tyseley and Hall Green stations. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by West Midlands Railway. History The station was opened in 1908 as a halt named ''Spring Road Platform'' to ease traffic from the station at Tyseley, and to serve a cluster of cottages on the nearby land, which were owned until 1925 by the landowner at Fox Hollies Hall, Zaccheus Walker IV. The station consisted of two platforms with shelters, with ramps leading from street level to the station below. Passengers had to purchase their tickets on the train. Birmingham To Stratford Line
The North Warwickshire Line (also known as the Shakespeare Line) is a suburban railway line in the West Midlands region of the United Kingdom. It runs from Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, now the southern terminus of the line, although until 1976 the line continued to Cheltenham as part of the Great Western Railway route from Birmingham to Bristol. The line is one of the Snow Hill lines. It is not electrified and is operated by West Midlands Trains using Class 172 diesel multiple units. National Express West Midlands Birmingham Outer Circle
West Midlands bus route 11, also known as the Birmingham Outer Circle, is a route that circumnavigates Birmingham via the A4040 apart from a small deviation via the B4182 and A4030 in Bearwood. It is mainly operated by National Express West Midlands with a few journeys operated by Discount Travel Solutions. It operates in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions as routes 11C and 11A, however since July 2021 the service was split so 11A buses would terminate at Perry Barr and then return as an 11C to Acocks Green, with 11C buses terminating at Erdington, returning as a 11A service to Acocks Green. The route is operated by National Express West Midlands. Since bus deregulation in 1986, several companies have competed on sections of this route.
