Fort Saskatchewan Record
The ''Fort Saskatchewan Record'' is a once-weekly (Thursdays) free newspaper in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada, a city on the northeast side of the Edmonton metropolitan area. It is the oldest paper in the city. History The paper began publication on April 5, 1922. H. In 1988, the Bowes chain was sold to Sun Media. Sun, as a subsidiary of Quebecor Media, continued to own the paper until 2015 when Sun Media was acquired by Postmedia. In 2003, local paper "This Week", which Bowes had purchased in 1997, was merged into the Fort Record, and the paper started publishing twice weekly instead of only once. Fort Saskatchewan
Fort Saskatchewan is a city along the North Saskatchewan River in Alberta, Canada. It is northeast of Edmonton, the provincial capital. It is part of the Edmonton census metropolitan area and one of 24 municipalities that constitute the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board. Its population in the 2021 federal census was 27,088. The city was founded as a North-West Mounted Police fort and later home to a large provincial gaol. The original fort was located across the river from the hamlet of Lamoureux, and Fort Saskatchewan opened a replica of the fort next to its original site in 2011. Fort Saskatchewan is bordered by Strathcona County to the south and east, Sturgeon County to the north and west, and the City of Edmonton to the southwest. Jake Ootes
Jake Ootes (born August 5, 1942) is a retired territorial level politician and newspaper and magazine publisher from Northwest Territories, Canada. Early life and career Ootes was born in the Schagen, Netherlands in 1942 and moved with his family to Canada in 1952 and lived in Renfrew, Ontario. Ootes worked as reporters in newspapers in Ontario and then moved into the federal civil service in the 1960s. Ootes began his career in politics working for the Northwest Territories Legislative Council in 1964 as a Hansard editor, he worked in that position until 1967. In 1967 Ootes became an Executive Assistant for Northwest Territories Commissioner Stuart Milton Hodgson. He served in that position until 1975. Sun Media Corporation was the owner of several tabloid and broadsheet newspapers in Canada and the 49 percent owner of the now defunct Sun News Network. It was a subsidiary of Quebecor Media.
