Fornarina (singer)
María del Consuelo Vello Cano, known as La Fornarina (Madrid, 28 May 1884- Madrid 17 July 1915) was an early twentieth-century ''Cuplé'' singer whose short career –barely 15 years– nevertheless brought her fame throughout Spain and Europe. Among her admirers were Jacinto Benavente and the brothers Antonio and Manuel Machado. Biography Daughter of the Civil Guard Laureano Vello Álvarez and the laundress Benita Cano Rodríguez. Her first notable appearances were as chorus girl in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid and her presence is also documented in the capital's ''Teatro Japonés'' around 1900. She apparently owed her nickname, "La Fornarina" (the baker girl) to the La Época journalist Javier Betegón. She already appeared under the name at the Teatro Romea in Madrid, the Teatro Nuevo Retiro in Barcelona and the Salon Novedades in Valencia. Joaquín Valverde Sanjuán
Joaquín "Quinito" Valverde Sanjuán (2 January 18754 November 1918) was a Spanish composer of zarzuelas. He was the son of Joaquín Valverde Durán, also a zarzuela composer, and was usually called Quinito Valverde to distinguish him from his father. In his day he was referred to as the "Tango King", the "Franz Lehár of Spanish music" and the "Spanish Offenbach", and his dance tunes were known internationally. Now he is perhaps best known for a short song called "Clavelitos" (''Little Carnations''), which has been recorded by many sopranos. Raquel Meller
Francisca Romana Marqués López (9 March 1888 – 26 July 1962), better known as Raquel Meller, was a Spanish diseuse, cuplé, and tonadilla singer and actress. She was an international star in the 1920s and 1930s, appearing in several films and touring Europe and the Americas. A vaudeville performer, she sang the original versions of well known songs such as "La Violetera" and "El relicario", both written by José Padilla Sánchez. Early life and career Meller was born in Tarazona (Province of Zaragoza, Zaragoza), Aragón in the neighborhood of Cinto. Her father, Telesforo Marqués Ibañez, worked as a blacksmith and her mother, Isabel López Sainz, ran a grocery store. La Chelito
Consuelo Portela Audet (1885–1959), commonly called La Bella Chelito and La Chelito, was a Cuban-born Spanish cuplé singer from the early 20th-century, and a theater business owner. She was a pioneer in the genre of picaresque cuplé. Biography She was born in Placetas, Las Villas, Cuba, to Spanish parents Antonia Audet and Isidro Portella. Her father was the captain of the Civil Guard in Cuba. She started singing at the age of 14, while living in Cuba and performed at the Payret, Molino Rojo and Alhambra theaters. She had critics including clergy, who labeled her as “libidinous satan” in Diario de la Marina, the Cuban newspaper. In 1910, her family returned to Spain. She performed mostly in the theaters in Barcelona and Madrid. Saint Isidore Cemetery is a monumental cemetery in the Spanish capital Madrid. Its first courtyard was erected in 1811 and new expansions were added throughout the 19th Century.
