Foreign Relations Of Eritrea
The foreign relations of Eritrea are the policies of the Eritrean government by which it administers its external relations with other nations. Since its independence, Eritrea's foreign relations have been dominated by conflict and confrontation, both in the regional and international arenas. It has maintained often troubled, and usually violent, relations with its neighbors, including brief armed conflicts with Yemen and Djibouti and a destructive war with its bigger-neighbour, Ethiopia.Nur, Salih O. (2013) "Foreign Policy of Eritrea: Explained in the Light of Democratic Peace Proposition." International Journal of Peace and Development Studies 4(2): 23 At present, Eritrea has very tense relations with neighboring Ethiopia and Djibouti. Relations in the international arena also have been strained since the last decade, particularly with major powers. What appeared cordial relations with the US in the 1990s turned acrimonious following the border war with Ethiopia, 1998-2000. Alt ...

Eritrea–Ethiopia Relations
Relations between Eritrea and Ethiopia are historically adversarial. Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1993 after the Eritrean War of Independence, after which relations were cordial. Since independence Eritrea's relationship with Ethiopia was entirely political, especially in the resuscitation and expansion of IGAD's scope. However, the 1998 Eritrean–Ethiopian War marked a turning point, and their relationship became Eritrean-Ethiopian border conflict, increasingly hostile. Upon the selection of Abiy Ahmed as Ethiopian Prime Minister, a 2018 Eritrea-Ethiopia summit, peace agreement was forged, and ties between the neighbouring countries were re-established on 9 July 2018. The alliance between the two countries has been strengthened since then, with Eritrean troops reportedly assisting the Ethiopian Army in the Tigray War, Tigray Conflict in 2020. Eritrea–Italy Relations
Eritrea–Italy relations are the bilateral relations between Italy and Eritrea. Both nations are members of the United Nations. History Eritrea was an Italian colony from the 1880s until the defeat of the Italians by the Allies of World War II in 1941.The first Italian establishment in what is now known as Eritrea was in 1869 with the purchase of Assab by the Rubattino Shipping Company, which came under government control in 1882. In 1890 the colony of Eritrea (Italian: Colonia Eritrea) was officially founded. Mussolini's rise to power in Italy in 1922 brought major changes to the colonial government in Eritrea. After he declared the birth of the Italian Empire in May 1936, Italian Eritrea (enlarged with northern Ethiopia's regions) and Italian Somaliland were merged with the recently conquered Ethiopia in the new Italian East Africa (Africa Orientale Italiana) administrative territory. It remained so until Italy lost the region in 1941, during the East African campaign of Wo ...

Eritrea–Israel Relations
Eritrea–Israel relations are foreign relations between Eritrea and Israel. Both countries established diplomatic relation in 1993 following Eritrean independence. Eritrea has an embassy in Ramat Gan and Israel has an embassy in Asmara. Their ties are generally considered as very close. Both Eritrea and Israel have shared access to the Red Sea. Eritrean War of Independence During the end of the Eritrean War of Independence, Israel provided support to Ethiopia. This was because it saw the Eritrean conflict as an extension of the wider Arab–Israeli conflict. The majority of Arab countries supported Eritrea's separation from Ethiopia. They saw its sizeable Muslim population (45%) as a way to make sure the Red Sea remained "Arab Waters". For this reason Israel allied itself with the Ethiopian government to take advantage of the long Eritrean coast which stretches over 1,080 kilometres. This began in the early 1960s when Israel started helping the Ethiopian government in its camp ...

Eritrea–Germany Relations
Eritrea–Germany relations have existed since Eritrea's independence from Ethiopia in 1993, but they are strained by the poor human rights situation in Eritrea. Among Afro-Germans, Eritreans are now among the largest groups. History Some German-speaking explorers such as Friedrich Gerstäcker and the Werner Munzinger traveled in Eritrea in the 19th century. In 1871, the orientalist Franz Praetorius published a treatise on the Tigrinya language. The Rose Legation, which concluded a trade and friendship treaty with the Ethiopian Empire on behalf of Kaiser Wilhelm II, reached Eritrea in May 1905. During World War II, the German Motorized Company was deployed in Eritrea as a volunteer unit in the East African campaign in Italian East Africa. However, on April 2, 1941, Britain troops captured Eritrea after the Italians were defeated at Asmara on April 1. After World War II, Eritrea was once again part of Abyssinia and later the successor state Ethiopia. As a result, a protracte ...

The committee meets with the President as necessary. Laws concerning foreign relations are discussed in the parliamentary committee of foreign relations (''ulkoasiainvaliokunta, utrikesutskottet'').
