Fongshan is a station on the Orange line of the Kaohsiung MRT in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Located in the historical centre of Fongshan. The MRT station's location is about 700 meters from the Taiwan Railway Administration Fengshan Station. Station overview The station is a two-level, underground station with an island platform and two exits. Fongshan District
Fongshan District, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency () is a district located in southern Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Fongshan is one of the administrative centers of Kaohsiung and is home to the Republic of China Military Academy. There are three military units currently located in Fongshan. Both the Republic of China Military Academy and R.O.C. Army Infantry School came to Taiwan from mainland China and were re-established here in 1950. Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparatory School was established in 1976. These three units used to be the main economic driving force, but their importance diminished gradually as Fongshan has established itself as a conjunction between Pingtung City and Kaohsiung. Although there are several industrial zones at the outskirts of the city, the major lifestyle in Fongshan seems to be very residential. Island Platform
An island platform (also center platform, centre platform) is a station layout arrangement where a single platform is positioned between two tracks within a railway station, tram stop or transitway interchange. Island platforms are popular on twin-track routes due to pragmatic and cost reasons. They are also useful within larger stations where local and express services for the same direction of travel can be provided from opposite sides of the same platform thereby simplifying transfers between the two tracks. Fengshan Railway Station
Fengshan station (), is a railway station on the Taiwan Railways Administration Pingtung line located in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. The station is located about 700 meters, or 2300 feet northeast of the Kaohsiung MRT Fengshan Station. The temporary station during the construction of the new station building History The station opened on 1 October 1907 as , part of the first phase of what later became the TRA Pingtung line. In 1935, a brick station building replaced the original wooden station building, and was expanded twice in 1964 and 1990. The station tracks were electrified between 3 May 1995 (from Kaohsiung to Fongshan) and 10 July 1996 (from Fongshan to Pingtung). Until 1998, this station was also served by the South-North line ( zh:南北平行預備線) of Taiwan Sugar Railways. Fengshan Stadium, Kaohsiung City
The Fongshan Stadium (), formerly known as the Kaohsiung County Stadium (高雄縣立體育場), is a multi-purpose stadium in Fongshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is currently used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and serves as the home venue of the Taiwan Power Company F.C., Taipower Football Club. The stadium is able to hold 18,000 people and was opened in 1976. Zhonghua Street Night Market
The Zhonghua Street Night Market () is a night market in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. History The night market opened in the 1950s. In 1965, the Kaohsiung County Government officially set up the area to be a night market. Architecture The night market is located at the intersection of Zhongshan Street and Guangyuan Road on a 3 km (1.9 mi) long street with over more than 500 food stalls. Many delicacies such as fig jelly, salted crispy chicken, chicken rice, beef noodles and herb tea can be found in the night market. It also has cultural interests and temples. Transportation The night market is accessible by walking about 100m (350ft) north of exit 2 of the Fongshan Station of the Kaohsiung MRT. Fongyi Tutorial Academy
The Fongyi Tutorial Academy () is a former tutorial academy during the Qing Dynasty rule of Taiwan in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. It is the largest preserved Confucian academy in Taiwan. History The building was built by Jhang Ting-cing in 1814 during Jiaqing Emperor rule. It was the venue for candidates to take the imperial examination. On 13 November 1985, the building was designated as level 3 historical monument. In 2007, the Kaohsiung City Government acquired the land title of the academy and restoration to the building commenced with a total budget of NT$ 100 million. Architecture The building was built using traditional Chinese style with wooden carving and tablets inscribed with phrases describing good manners. It consists of 37 rooms with the center altar dedicated to Wenchang Buddha, Kuichang Buddha and Changsheng Buddha. There are stone drum on both sides of the screen wall.
