Flint Metro League
Flint Metro League (FML) is a high school sports league in the Flint area of Michigan. It is composed of twelve high schools. History In 1968, six Flint area schools formed a new league to play against schools of similar size and to cut down on travel for some schools. Two teams, Fenton and Swartz Creek, joined from the County B League, and one each from the Big Nine Conference (Ainsworth), Wayne-Oakland League (Holly) and Tri-County League ( Lapeer High) and a new high school: Carman. The league in 1983 contained 10 schools but by 2002 there were seven teams. Clio in 2005 and Swartz Creek in 2006 moved to the Flint Metro League as the conference was perceived as being overpowering to those schools. In 2006, the entire Big Nine Conference applied for membership in the league to encourage discussion on a merger. It is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Flushing, Michigan
Flushing is a city in Genesee County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 8,411 at the 2020 census. Flushing is considered a suburb of Flint. It is situated within the survey area of Flushing Charter Township, but is administratively autonomous. Flushing originated as a mill town in the mid-1830s. Its location along the Flint River, the county's largest river, was a decisive factor in its settlement. Water power potential was a significant determinant for the selection of the settlement areas throughout the nineteenth century. In addition to its water power, the area around Flushing was also well suited to agricultural pursuits. The name Dover originally was selected for the new village until it was discovered that the name already was in use in Lenawee County. Ira Terry Sayre (March 6, 1858March 6, 1926) was a Michigan politician. Early life Sayre was born in Hector, New York, on March 6, 1858, to parents Augustus and Sarah Evelyn Sayre. He and his family moved to Michigan in 1864. Sayre graduated from as a part of Flushing High School's first class in 1878. Sayre attended both Michigan Agricultural College and the University of Michigan Law School from 1880 to 1881, but did not graduate. Career Sayre served as the Flushing Township clerk for seven years. Sayre served as justice of the peace in Flushing, Michigan, from 1888 to 1892. Sayre was admitted to the bar on June 12, 1881. He then started practicing in Flushing, Michigan. After organizing the Peoples State Bank in Flushing, Michigan, and served as its first president.
