First Quarter Storm
The First Quarter Storm ( fil, Sigwa ng Unang Sangkapat), often shortened into the acronym FQS, was a period of civil unrest in the Philippines which took place during the "first quarter of the year 1970". It included a series of demonstrations, protests, and marches against the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, mostly organized by students and supported by workers, peasants, and members of the urban poor, from January 26 to March 17, 1970. Protesters at these events raised issues relating to social problems, authoritarianism, alleged election cheating, and corruption under Marcos. Violent dispersals of various FQS protests were among the first watershed events in which large numbers of Filipino students of the 1970s were radicalized against the Marcos administration. Fernando Lopez
Fernando Hofileña Lopez Sr. (April 13, 1904May 26, 1993) was a Filipino statesman. A member of the influential Lopez family of Iloilo, he served as Vice President of the Philippines, vice president of the Philippines for three terms – under Elpidio Quirino (1949–1953) for the Liberal Party (Philippines), Liberals and Ferdinand Marcos (1965–1969 and 1969–1972) for the Nacionalista Party, Nacionalistas. He was also the chairman of ABS-CBN Corporation from 1986 to his death in 1993. Ruben Torres (Filipino Politician)
Ruben Deloso Torres (born September 10, 1941 in Botolan, Zambales) is a politician in the Philippines. He goes by the nom de guerre "''Kadre''" which he was known as a leftist during martial law period. Life Torres was known as a student activist, then a leftist leader during and after martial law. Under President Corazon Aquino, he served as an undersecretary in the Department of Labor and Employment from 1989 to 1990. Afterwards he was promoted to full secretary, serving from 1990 to 1992. Under the next president, Fidel V. Ramos, he worked as executive secretary (colloquially known as the ''Little President'') from 1995 to 1998. Edgar Jopson
Edgardo Gil Mirasol Jopson, more popularly known as Edgar Jopson or Edjop (September 1, 1948 – September 21, 1982), was a labor rights activist and active member of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) during the reign of former President Ferdinand Marcos. Jopson studied in Ateneo de Manila High School, and later proceeded to Ateneo de Manila University where he graduated under the Management Engineering program, garnering Latin Honors. He was active in politics since his years in college, even becoming the president of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP). Emmanuel Neri Pelaez (November 30, 1915 – July 27, 2003) was a Filipino public servant and politician who served as the 6th Vice President of the Philippines from 1961 to 1965.
