First Iemma Ministry
The Iemma ministry (2005–2007) or First Iemma ministry is the 89th ministry of the Government of New South Wales, and was led by the 40th Premier Morris Iemma. It was the first of two occasions when Iemma was Premier. The 1st Iemma Labor ministry was formed following the shock retirement of Bob Carr as Premier after Carr had the longest continuous service as Premier, from 1995 until 2005. Iemma succeeded Carr after a bitter inter-factional battle against Carl Scully who withdrew from the caucus contest after Iemma received backing from Labor's head office and powerbrokers in the dominant NSW Right of the Labor Party. This ministry covers the period from 3 August 2005 until 2 April 2007, when the outcome of the 2007 state election was determined and Iemma re-elected for a second term. Bob Carr
Robert John Carr (born 28 September 1947) is an Australian retired politician and journalist who served as the 39th Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, as the leader of the NSW Branch of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He later entered federal politics as a New South Wales senator, and served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2012 to 2013. Following his departure from politics he served as the Director of the Australia-China Relations Institute (ACRI) from 2014 to 2019 at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Carr was born in Sydney and attended the University of New South Wales. Before entering politics he worked as a journalist. Carr entered the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1983, and the following year became a cabinet minister. Eric Roozendaal
Eric Michael Roozendaal (born 16 March 1962), a former Australian politician, was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council, serving between 2004 and 2013. He is a former General Secretary of the Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch), Labor Party. Michael Costa (politician)
Michael Costa (born 15 July 1956) is a former Australian Labor politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2001 until 2008, and Treasurer of New South Wales from 2006 to 2008 and held other ministerial portfolios in the governments of premiers Bob Carr and Morris Iemma. Early life and career Costa was born in Newcastle to Greek Cypriot migrants who came to Australia in the 1950s. In 1979, Costa began work as a rigger at the Garden Island naval dockyard. It was there where he was first involved with the Australian labour movement becoming a Delegate for the Federated Ironworkers' Association (now Australian Workers' Union). Minister For Ports And Waterways (New South Wales)
The Minister for Ports was a ministry first established in 1975 in the Coalition Lewis–Cutler ministry and abolished in 2011. It has had three incarnations and was renamed as the Minister for Ports and Waterways in the First Iemma ministry in 2005. In 2011 the portfolio was merged with that of Roads to form the portfolio of Roads and Ports. Role and responsibilities Ports had previously been a responsibility of the Minister for Public Works and both portfolios were held by the same minister for the first nine years until 1984. Milton Orkopoulos
Milton Orkopoulos (born 22 July 1957) is an Australian former state politician and convicted sex offender. A member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1999 to 2006, Orkopoulos was appointed Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Minister Assisting the Premier on Citizenship in August 2005. In November 2006, Premier of New South Wales Morris Iemma dismissed him as a Minister and of a member of the Australian Labor Party after he was charged with child sex and other offences. Carmel Tebbutt
Carmel Mary Tebbutt (born 22 January 1964) is an Australian former politician. She was the Labor Party Member for the former seat of Marrickville in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly until the 2015 election and was Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 2008 to 2011. She was also Minister for Health in the Keneally Government. She is the first woman to hold the position of Deputy Premier of New South Wales. Early life Tebbutt is one of seven children. Minister For Aboriginal Affairs (New South Wales)
The New South Wales Minister for Aboriginal Affairs is a minister in the Government of New South Wales with responsibility for administering legislation and policy in relation to that state's indigenous Australians in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The current Minister for Aboriginal Affairs is Ben Franklin, who also holds the portfolios of the Arts and Regional Youth, appointed with effect from 21 December 2021. The minister assists the lead portfolio minister, the Deputy Premier, Paul Toole, who was appointed with effect from 6 October 2021. Craig John Knowles (born 27 February 1959) is a former Australian politician and member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 2005. Early life Knowles' parents were Marie and Stan Knowles, member for Ingleburn from 1981 to 1988 and Macquarie Fields from 1988 to 1990. He was born in Liverpool, New South Wales and educated at Liverpool Boys High School, Sydney College of Technical and Further Education. Andrew John Refshauge (born on 16 January 1949) was a former Australian politician who was Deputy Premier of New South Wales from 1995 to 2005, a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1983 and 2005, and a senior minister in the Carr ministry. Background and early career Refshauge was born in Melbourne, the son of Major General Sir William Refshauge who later became Honorary Physician to Queen Elizabeth II and Director-General of the Commonwealth Department of Health.
