First Division Women(Icelandic Basketball)
(English: Women's first division) is the second-tier basketball competition among clubs in Iceland. History The league was founded 1984 and until 2005 it was known as (English: Women's second division). On 13 March 2020, the rest of the 2019–20 season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Iceland, coronavirus outbreak in Iceland. Format The team with the best record is crowned first division champion. The top two teams then play a best–of–three playoff for a promotion to the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (basketball), Úrvalsdeild. Akureyri (, locally ) is a town in northern Iceland. Pétur Már Sigurðsson (born 15 April 1978) is an Icelandic professional basketball coach and a former player. He is currently the head coach of Vestri. He is the former head coach of the Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Stjarnan and former assistant coach of the Icelandic men's national basketball team. He coached the men's national team during the 2013 Games of the Small States of Europe in the absence of Peter Öqvist. The team finished third with two wins and two losses. The Vestri women's basketball team, commonly known as Vestri, is a basketball team based in Ísafjörður, Iceland. It is part of the Íþróttafélagið Vestri, Vestri multi-sport club. History The club was founded in 1965 as ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Ísafjarðar'' (KFÍ).
