Festival OTI
OTI Festival ( es, Festival OTI de la Canción, pt, Festival OTI da Canção), often known simply as La OTI, was an international song competition, organised annually between 1972 and 2000 by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) (English: Iberoamerican Television Organisation), featuring participants representing primarily Ibero-American countries. Each participating OTI member broadcaster submitted an original song in Spanish or Portuguese to be performed on live television and transmitted to all OTI broadcasters via satellite. It was preceded by the Festival Mundial de la Canción Latina, held in 1969 and 1970 in Mexico. The festival was an Ibero-American spin-off of the Eurovision Song Contest. The first edition was held at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos auditorium in Madrid on November 25, 1972 and the last one was held on May 20, 2000 in Acapulco. Venezuela In The OTI Festival
Venezuela with their three OTI member stations: RCTV, Venevisión and Venezolana de Televisión debuted in the OTI Song Contest in 1972 in Madrid when the festival was held for the first time. History This country won the festival on two occasions, the first one in 1982 with the teenage boy band Unicornio performing the song "Puedes contar conmigo" (You can count on me). OTI Festival 1974
OTI Festival 1974 was the third edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Acapulco, Mexico, following the country's victory at the OTI Festival 1973, 1973 contest with the song "Que alegre va María" by Imelda Miller. Organised by the Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica, Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Televisa, the contest was held at the Ruiz de Alarcón Theatre on Saturday 26 October 1974 and was hosted by Raúl Velasco, Raul Velasco and Lolita Ayala. Mexico In The OTI Festival
Mexico and its member station Televisa, participated in the OTI festival 26 times making its debut in 1973, one year after the start of the contest. During the contest’s run, Mexico was one of the most successful nations with a record six wins, including a back-to-back victory in 1989 and 1990, and 14 top 3 finishes. The OTI Festival 1973 was the second edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, following the country's victory at the 1972 contest with the song "Dialogo" by Claudia Regina and Tobías. Organised by the Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Rede Tupi, the contest was held at the Palácio das Artes on Saturday 10 November 1973 and was hosted by Walter Forster and Íris Lettieri. Uruguay In The OTI Festival
Uruguay and its OTI member station Teledoce, was one of the founders and main launchers of the OTI Festival. The country debuted in the contest in the first show in Madrid in 1972. Argentina In The OTI Festival
Argentina was one of the founding members of the OTI Festival and debuted in the event in 1972 when the first contest was held in Madrid. Canal 7 and Canal 13 Argentina were the two OTI member broadcasters that organised the Argentine participation in the event. Since their debut, this country participated regularly in the festival (except for 1974) till 2000, when the last edition took place. Puerto Rico and its OTI member station, Telemundo Puerto Rico (Now WKAQ-TV) was one of the founding countries of the OTI Festival and debuted in the show in 1972 in Madrid, competing uninterruptedly from the very first edition until the last show held in Acapulco in 2000. The Dominican Republic with its OTI member station Telesistema 11, was one of the founding countries of the OTI Festival and participated in the very first edition of the show in Madrid in 1972.
