OTI Festival 1974
OTI Festival 1974 was the third edition of the annual OTI Festival. It was held in Acapulco, Mexico, following the country's victory at the OTI Festival 1973, 1973 contest with the song "Que alegre va María" by Imelda Miller. Organised by the Organización de Telecomunicaciones de Iberoamérica, Organización de Televisión Iberoamericana (OTI) and host broadcaster Televisa, the contest was held at the Ruiz de Alarcón Theatre on Saturday 26 October 1974 and was hosted by Raúl Velasco, Raul Velasco and Lolita Ayala. This festival was marked by the debut of seven countries, which led to a sudden rise in the number of participating entries. The winner was Puerto Rico in the OTI Festival, Puerto Rico with the song "Hoy canto por cantar", performed by Nydia Caro. Acapulco
Acapulco de Juárez (), commonly called Acapulco ( , also , nah, Acapolco), is a city and major seaport in the state of Guerrero on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, south of Mexico City. Nicaragua In The OTI Festival
Nicaragua and its two OTI member stations Telenica and Televicentro Nicaragua debuted in the OTI Festival in 1974 in Acapulco as did many of their Central American neighbours. The first Nicaraguan entrant in the contest was the well known Hernaldo Zúñiga who got the seventh place scoring five points. Charytín Goyco (born María del Rosario Goico Rodríguez, on May 23, 1949 in Santa Lucía), better known in show business as simply Charytín, is a Dominican singer, television hostess and actress. Early life Born in Santa Lucía, El Seibo, to a Dominican father (of Russian, Serbian, Montenegrin, French and Spanish ancestry), and a Spaniard mother (her mother was an attorney from Asturias, Spain who found herself exiled during the regime of Francisco Franco). Dominican Republic In The OTI Festival
The Dominican Republic with its OTI member station Telesistema 11, was one of the founding countries of the OTI Festival and participated in the very first edition of the show in Madrid in 1972. Since then, the country participated almost uninterruptedly in the event. The Caribbean country only withdrew from the event in 1976, but one year later, the broadcaster rejoined the show and participated till the last edition in 2000 in Acapulco. History The Dominican Republic never managed to get a victory in the OTI Festival, but had a successful participation during the most of its history and ended several times in the top 10 places of the classification. Hernaldo Zúñiga
Hernaldo Zúñiga (born June 2, 1955) is a Nicaraguan singer-songwriter. He was born in Managua, but spent his childhood and adolescence in Masaya. Career While he was studying in Chile, in 1973, Zúñiga recorded his first 45 rpm single with "Producciones Caracol", including as one side the David Gates' song "Everything I Own". At 17, during his first year of law school, he composed his first song, "Ventanillas" ("Little Windows"). In February 1974, he performed in the XV Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar. In October of that year, he obtained seventh place in the third edition of the OTI Festival, celebrated in Acapulco, Mexico, singing the song "Gaviota" ("Seagull"), which meant the first participation of Nicaragua in this Festival. Venezuela In The OTI Festival
Venezuela with their three OTI member stations: RCTV, Venevisión and Venezolana de Televisión debuted in the OTI Song Contest in 1972 in Madrid when the festival was held for the first time. History This country won the festival on two occasions, the first one in 1982 with the teenage boy band Unicornio performing the song "Puedes contar conmigo" (You can count on me). The second Venezuelan victory came in 1987 in Lisbon with Alfredo Alejandro, who performed the song "La felicidad esá en un rincón de tu corazón" (The happiness is inside a corner of your heart). Apart from their victories, the South American country got two second places in 1976 and 1979 and three third places in 1974, 1975 and 1994.
