Fermoy GAA
Fermoy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the town of Fermoy, Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in competitions organized by the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu GAA divisional board. The club plays both Gaelic football and hurling. History Fermoy Gaelic Athletic Association club was founded in 1886 at a meeting in the National League Rooms (now called Fermoy Commercial club in O'Neill Crowley Quay or present home to the Fermoy Bridge club). William Troy was the club's first chairman. He was also one of the Munster delegates to the second All-Ireland Congress held in Thurles in 1887, and was elected one of the first Vice-Presidents of the GAA National Executive Body. Clondulane village in the suburbs of Fermoy was the hub of Fermoy teams at that time, due to the large employment available at the Flour Mills which were situated there for many years. Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
The Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Cork PIHC) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Cork County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking intermediate clubs in the county of Cork in Ireland. It is the third tier overall in the entire Cork hurling championship system. The Cork Premier Intermediate Championship was introduced in 2004 following a split in the existing Cork Intermediate Hurling Championship. At the time of its creation it was the second tier of Cork hurling. In its soon-to-be introduced format, the Cork Premier Intermediate Championship will begin in April. Andy Scannell
Andrew Scannell (26 June 1905 – 3 January 1959) was an Irish Gaelic footballer, hurler, team selector and Gaelic games administrator. Scannell began his administrative career as secretary of the Fermoy club between 1936 and 1939. He served as club chairman from 1940 to 1945 before being elected chairman of the North Cork Board in 1946. At County Board level Scannell served as vice-chairman and chairman at various times between 1947 and 1954. He was later elected to the position of vice-chairman of the Munster Council and served as a delegate to Central Council. Dave Roche (Gaelic Footballer)
David Roche (May 1923 – 5 November 2020) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side Fermoy and at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team. Career Roche first came to Gaelic football prominence on the Fermoy team that faced CLonakilty in five consecutive county finals from 1942 to 1946. He ended up on the winning side on just one occasion in 1945. Roche's performances at club level saw him join the Cork senior football team for the opening round of the 1944 Munster Championship. He was replaced as first-choice goalkeeper by Moll O'Driscoll the following year, however, he remained close to the panel that claimed the All-Ireland title after a defeat of Cavan in the final. Roche was also a regular with the Cork junior team and won a Munster Championship title in that grade in 1953. Dave Magnier
David Magnier (30 October 1915 – 10 July 1979) is an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Fermoy and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1944 until 1947. Career Magnier first came to Gaelic football prominence as a 17-year-old member of the Fermoy team that claimed the County Intermediate Championship title in 1932. This victory saw him join the Cork minor team in 1933. A stint with the Cork junior team was followed by a call-up to the Cork senior team in 1943. Magnier collected a Munster Championship in his first year with the team, however, it would be 1945 before he joined the starting fifteen. He won his second provincial medal that year before ending the season by lining out at right corner-back when Cork claimed the All-Ireland title after a defeat of Cavan in the final.
