Dave Magnier
David Magnier (30 October 1915 – 10 July 1979) is an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Fermoy and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1944 until 1947. Career Magnier first came to Gaelic football prominence as a 17-year-old member of the Fermoy team that claimed the County Intermediate Championship title in 1932. This victory saw him join the Cork minor team in 1933. A stint with the Cork junior team was followed by a call-up to the Cork senior team in 1943. Magnier collected a Munster Championship in his first year with the team, however, it would be 1945 before he joined the starting fifteen. He won his second provincial medal that year before ending the season by lining out at right corner-back when Cork claimed the All-Ireland title after a defeat of Cavan in the final. Fermoy GAA
Fermoy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the town of Fermoy, Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in competitions organized by the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu GAA divisional board. The club plays both Gaelic football and hurling. History Fermoy Gaelic Athletic Association club was founded in 1886 at a meeting in the National League Rooms (now called Fermoy Commercial club in O'Neill Crowley Quay or present home to the Fermoy Bridge club). William Troy was the club's first chairman. He was also one of the Munster delegates to the second All-Ireland Congress held in Thurles in 1887, and was elected one of the first Vice-Presidents of the GAA National Executive Body. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title. Presently, Ulster hold the record for the most football Railway Cup wins with 30, while Munster has won the most hurling titles with 43. Fachtna O'Donovan
Michael Fachtna O'Donovan (1921 - 17 October 1995) was an Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club Clonakilty and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team from 1943 until 1949. Career O'Donovan first came to Gaelic football prominence with the Carbery Rangers team that won consecutive Southwest Junior Championship titles. Around this time he was also drafted onto the Cork minor team and won a Munster Minor Championship title in 1939. O'Donovan subsequently transferred to the Clonakilty club that was enjoying a golden age in terms of success and won six County Championship titles in ten years. He was soon added to the Cork senior team and claimed his first silverware in 1943 when Cork won the Munster Senior Championship for the first time in 15 years. Tadhgo Crowley
Timothy J. Crowley (24 April 1921 – 3 December 1963), also known as Tadhgo Crowley, was an Irish Gaelic football player and referee. Throughout his 18-year club career, he played for his hometown club Clonakilty, winning seven County Championship titles during a golden age for the club; he also played hurling for 'Clon', and had much success in the West Cork Championship. At inter-county level, he captained the Cork county team to the 1945 All-Ireland Championship title; he had earlier won an All-Ireland title as a member of the Cork minor hurling team in 1939. As well as being a successful captain for club and county, Crowley led Munster to win two Railway Cups: in 1946 as captain, and in 1948. Towards the end of his career, he served as a referee at club and inter-county levels. Crowley is widely considered one of the best players of his generation, and among the greatest of all time, as well as being regarded by many in the sport as Cork's greatest ever centre-back. The 1945 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship was the 59th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county Gaelic football tournament. The 1945 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 57th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. Cork University Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal na hOllscoile Corcaigh) is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, Cork in Ireland. Its academic partner is University College Cork.
