Cork University Hospital
Cork University Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal na hOllscoile Corcaigh) is a large university teaching hospital in Wilton, Cork in Ireland. Its academic partner is University College Cork. It is the only Level 1 Trauma Centre in Ireland. It is a public hospital managed by the South/Southwest Hospital Group, a part of the Health Service Executive. History The hospital officially opened as Cork Regional Hospital in November 1978. A new Regional Cancer Centre opened in December 2009 and a new Cardiac Renal Centre, built at a cost of €85 million, opened in October 2010. Services The hospital has 800 beds. The hospital has its own hospital radio ''CUH FM'' offering full coverage to the hospital. The Health Service Executive (HSE) ( ga, Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte) is the publicly funded healthcare system in Ireland, responsible for the provision of health and personal social services. It came into operation on 1 January 2005. The current Director-General is Stephen Mulvany on an interim basis, after Paul Reid stepped down in October 2022. A helipad is a landing area or platform for helicopters and powered lift aircraft. While helicopters and powered lift aircraft are able to operate on a variety of relatively flat surfaces, a fabricated helipad provides a clearly marked hard surface away from obstacles where such aircraft can land safely. Douglas () is a suburb, with a village core, in Cork city, Ireland. Douglas is also the name of the townland, Roman Catholic parish, Church of Ireland parish and civil parish in which it is contained. Mahon () is an area to the south-eastern side of Cork, Ireland. Mahon gets its name from Lough Mahon, a wide stretch of the upper section of Cork Harbour. It was once a semi-rural peninsula, but from the late 20th century was subject to residential development, and has a number of housing estates and developments. Mallow General Hospital ( ga, Ospidéal Ginearálta Mhala) is a public hospital located in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland. It is managed by South/Southwest Hospital Group. History The hospital has its origins in the Mallow Union Workhouse and Infirmary which was designed by George Wilkinson and opened in 1841.
