Dave Roche (Gaelic Footballer)
David Roche (May 1923 – 5 November 2020) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for club side Fermoy and at inter-county level with the Cork senior football team. Career Roche first came to Gaelic football prominence on the Fermoy team that faced CLonakilty in five consecutive county finals from 1942 to 1946. He ended up on the winning side on just one occasion in 1945. Roche's performances at club level saw him join the Cork senior football team for the opening round of the 1944 Munster Championship. He was replaced as first-choice goalkeeper by Moll O'Driscoll the following year, however, he remained close to the panel that claimed the All-Ireland title after a defeat of Cavan in the final. Roche was also a regular with the Cork junior team and won a Munster Championship title in that grade in 1953. Fermoy GAA
Fermoy GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the town of Fermoy, Cork, Ireland. The club fields teams in competitions organized by the Cork GAA county board and the Avondhu GAA divisional board. The club plays both Gaelic football and hurling. History Fermoy Gaelic Athletic Association club was founded in 1886 at a meeting in the National League Rooms (now called Fermoy Commercial club in O'Neill Crowley Quay or present home to the Fermoy Bridge club). William Troy was the club's first chairman. He was also one of the Munster delegates to the second All-Ireland Congress held in Thurles in 1887, and was elected one of the first Vice-Presidents of the GAA National Executive Body. Clondulane village in the suburbs of Fermoy was the hub of Fermoy teams at that time, due to the large employment available at the Flour Mills which were situated there for many years. Cavan GAA
The Cavan County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae an Chabháin) or Cavan GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Cavan. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Cavan county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The 1945 Cork Senior Football Championship was the 57th staging of the Cork Senior Football Championship since its establishment by the Cork County Board in 1887. Clonakilty entered the championship as the defending champions. On 21 October 1945, Fermoy won the championship following a 0–06 to 0–03 defeat of Clonakilty in the final. The Munster Junior Football Championship is a gaelic football tournament between the six counties of Munster: Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Waterford. It is the third-tier county teams playing off in a single-elimination tournament with 2 quarter finals instead of 4 (as of 2014). The cup was first given to the winners in 1957. The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup.
