The fencing competitions at the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur were held at MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre in Segambut. The 2017 Games feature competitions in six individual events (3 events for each gender). MATRADE Exhibition And Convention Centre
MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) ( ms, Pusat Pameran dan Konvensyen MATRADE) is a trade centre, exhibition hall, and convention centre in the suburb of Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. MECC, established by MATRADE (Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation), provides convention facilities, exhibition halls, and meeting rooms. MATRADE has also allocated a permanent exhibition space for 400 local companies at the exhibition hall on the second floor. The centre is also a component of Naza Group of Companies, Naza TTDI’s KL Metropolis development which is expected to be fully completed within 12 to 15 years time. In operation since 2 January 2007, MECC has hosted many trade related events. Fencing At The SEA Games
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century, with the Italian school having modified the historical European martial art of classical fencing, and the French school later refining the Italian system. There are three forms of modern fencing, each of which uses a different kind of weapon and has different rules; thus the sport itself is divided into three competitive scenes: foil, épée, and sabre. Ywen Lau (; born 24 January 2000) is a Singaporean sabre fencer. Education Lau studied at United World College of South East Asia. In 2017, Lau was accepted to study at Stanford University in California, United States in September 2018. Biography Lau represented Singapore at the 2014 Asian Games as the youngest participant ever in the fencing competition. In 2014 she became the first female fencer representing Singapore to reach the quarter-finals of the 2014 Asian Fencing Championship. Lau is currently ranked number 1 on the senior level in Singapore for Women's Sabre, she also finished in the 25th spot at the 2015 Cadet & Junior World Fencing Championships. Maxine Esteban
Maxine Isabel Esteban (born November 26, 2000) is a Filipino–Ivorian fencer. She is a 2023 African bronze medalist in women's foil. Esteban represented the Philippines before transferring to the Ivory Coast as a naturalized citizen in 2022. During her tenure under the Philippine flag, she became a 2017 Southeast Asian foil bronze medalist, as well as a 2019 and 2021 team foil silver medalist. Segambut is a sub-district and a parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
