Maxine Esteban
Maxine Isabel Esteban (born November 26, 2000) is a Filipino–Ivorian fencer. She is a 2023 African bronze medalist in women's foil. Esteban represented the Philippines before transferring to the Ivory Coast as a naturalized citizen in 2022. During her tenure under the Philippine flag, she became a 2017 Southeast Asian foil bronze medalist, as well as a 2019 and 2021 team foil silver medalist. She was also the country's highest-ranked fencer at 62nd in the world. At present, Esteban is globally ranked 39th, per the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime. Education Esteban studied at the Immaculate Conception Academy in Greenhills for high school, graduating in 2018. She pursued a course in management engineering at the Ateneo de Manila University. She later attended the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with an undergraduate degree in applied arts and science, achieving ''summa cum laude'' honors in 2023. UAAP Season 83
UAAP Season 83 was the planned 2020–21 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). This season was to be hosted by the De La Salle University. Eight member universities of the UAAP would compete in the league's sixteen sport disciplines to vie for the general championship. The COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines caused Season 82, which was supposed to end in May 2020, to be cancelled in April 2020. This had to be done to avoid logistical issues in organizing Season 83, which was planned to open in January 2021 but the plan was scrapped in December 2020, taking into account training that is usually held months prior to the opening of a UAAP season and the imposition of general community quarantine measures in Metro Manila. Eight member universities of the UAAP competed in the league's fifteen sports to vie for the general championship. The Ateneo Blue Eagles are the collegiate varsity teams of the Ateneo de Manila University that play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere collegiate league in the Philippines. The collegiate women's varsity basketball team is called the ''Lady Eagles''. The Ateneo collegiate men's varsity basketball team was not always called the Blue Eagles.
