Fencing At The 1988 Summer Olympics
At the 1988 Summer Olympics, eight fencing events were contested. Men competed in both individual and team events for each of the three weapon types (épée, foil and sabre), but women competed only in foil events. Matthias Behr (born 1 April 1955 in Tauberbischofsheim, Baden-Württemberg) is a former German foil fencer. He won a gold medal and three silvers at three Olympic Games. Biography Matthias Behr attended the Kaufmännische Schule Tauberbischofsheim''75 Jahre Kaufmännische Schule Tauberbischofsheim'', StieberDruck GmbH, 113 Seiten, TBB 1997, S.49 and fought for the Fencing-Club Tauberbischofsheim. Matthias Behr is married to the former foil fencer Zita Funkenhauser. Stefano Cerioni
Stefano Cerioni (born 24 January 1964) is an Italian foil fencer, Olympic team champion in 1984, Olympic champion in 1988 and World team champion in 1985 and 1994. He became a fencing master, then a director of foil, first for Italy, then for Russia, then again for Italy. Athletic career Cerioni was born in 1964 in Madrid, where his father was working. His parents moved back to Jesi, in Italy, when he was a child. He learned fencing under Ezio Triccoli, a family friend, who also coached Olympic champions Valentina Vezzali and Giovanna Trillini in their formative years. He practiced both sabre and foil, but foil quickly gained his preference. Cerioni won the silver medal at the 1983 Junior World Championships in Budapest, then the gold medal in 1984 in Leningrad. Igor Tikhomirov
Igor Tikhomirov (russian: Игорь Тихомиров) (born 4 May 1963) is a Canadians, Canadian (formerly Soviet Union, Soviet) épée fencing, fencer. He competed for the Soviet Union, Soviets at the 1988 Summer Olympics, winning a bronze medal in the épée team competition. During the Soviet part of his career he trained at Dynamo (sports society), Dynamo in Moscow. Tikhomirov won the bronze medal for Canada at the épée 2006 World Fencing Championships after he lost 15-6 to Wang Lei (fencing), Wang Lei in the semi-final. Same year he won gold for Canada at 2006 Pan American Fencing Championships, Pan American Championships. He also represented Canada at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games where he finished 15. He lives in Toronto where he runs the Sword Players Fencing Academy.
