Faxe Ladeplads
Faxe Ladeplads or Fakse Ladeplads is a coastal town in Denmark with a population of 2,884 (1 January 2022), located in Zealand and lying 5 kilometers south-east from Faxe. It is mainly a harbour town, with a working harbour and a marina. The town is surrounded by forest and sandy beaches with shallow water. The forest stretches all the way to the sea, and from the edge one can see the island of Møn and the small protected wildlife park, Feddet. History The town was originally called Hylleholt. The current name comes from a time in the 19th century when the countship of Vemmetofte decided to build a harbour to service the limestone industry up in the neighboring Faxe town. Ladeplads literally means ''stock area''. In the town is Hylleholt Church from 1878. Faxe Kalkbrud
Faxe or Fakse is a town on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. It is located in Faxe Municipality in Region Zealand. The town is most known for the Faxe Brewery, Royal Unibrew, a relatively large brewery producing a range of beer and soft drinks, soda, energy drinks, Faxe Kondi and many more and so on. On the edge of town lies a big limestone quarry (1 km2), Faxe Quarry owned by Faxe Kalk, The Faxe Quarry have had their own narrow track railway but it was shut down many years ago owned by Faxe Kalk. Haribo Licorice (“Haribo Lakrids A/S”) was also founded in Faxe in 1935. History The name ''Faxe'' is Old Norse and means " horse mane", probably a reference to its location on a long hill. The town is mentioned in 1280. The first church was built in 1440. For many years the letter x was considered unnatural in Danish and the Fakse spelling was enforced instead of the Old Norse Faxe. Alfred William Flux
Sir Alfred William Flux (8 April 1867 – 16 July 1942) was a British economist and statistician. Flux was born in the Landport district of Portsmouth in 1867, the son of a cement maker. He attended Portsmouth Grammar School then studied mathematics at St John's College, Cambridge, where he was a Senior Wrangler in 1887 (sharing the honour in a tie with three others). While at Cambridge he became friends with Alfred Marshall, who interested him in economics. He was a foundation member of the Economic Society (1890). In 1893 he was appointed as Cobden Lecturer in Political Economy at Owens College, Manchester and from then until 1908 taught economics, at Manchester and then at McGill University, Montreal. Vemmetofte Cloister
Vemmetofte Convent ( da, Vemmetofte Adelige Jomfrukloster, Vemmetofte Kloster) is a former manor house in Faxe Municipality south of Copenhagen, Denmark. It was turned into a convent by Princess Sophia Hedwig of Denmark in 1735. Since 1975 it has provided housing available to the general public. History Early history The oldest known reference to Vemmetofte Manor dates back to 1320 when it was owned by Johannes Offesen, a brother-in-law of Stig Andersen Hvide who owned land both in Skåneland and on Zealand. Later it was owned by members of the aristocratic Brock family from 1464 to 1639. During this early stage of its history it was a strongly fortified house with a ring wall, double moats and draw bridges. Møn
Møn () is an island in south-eastern Denmark. Until 1 January 2007, it was a municipality in its own right but it is now part of the municipality of Vordingborg, after merging with the former municipalities of Langebæk, Præstø, and Vordingborg. This has created a municipality with an area of and a total population of 46,307 (2005). It belongs to the Region Sjælland ("Zealand Region"). Møn is one of Denmark's most popular destinations for tourists with its white chalk cliffs, countryside, sandy beaches and the market town of Stege.
