Falcom
is a Japanese video game developer, best known for their '' Ys'', '' The Legend of Heroes'', and ''Trails'' series. The company was founded in March 1981, making them one of the oldest active video game companies. They are credited with pioneering the action role-playing and Japanese role-playing game genres, as well as popularizing the use of personal computers in Japan. History Nihon Falcom was founded by Masayuki Kato in 1981. They are credited with laying the foundations for the action role-playing and Japanese role-playing game genres. Ys (series)
() is a series of action role-playing games developed by Nihon Falcom. The series chronicles the life of the adventurer Adol Christin. The first game in the series, '' Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished'', was released on the NEC PC-8801 in 1987. ''Ys'' games have since been ported and released on several other platforms. As of 2017, ''Ys'' had sold over 4.8 million copies worldwide. Common elements Plot The ''Ys'' series chronicles the life of Adol Christin, a young man obsessed with adventure. Gameplay usually revolves around Adol, though his comrade, Dogi, is a frequent companion in his travels. More recent games in the series include several other playable party members. A feature of the early ''Ys'' games is the Darm Tower. In the story, it is an unfinished and deserted tower, built with the intention of touching the sky. ''Trails'', known as in Japan, is a series of science fantasy role-playing video games by Nihon Falcom. It is a part of their larger '' The Legend of Heroes'' franchise and began with the release of '' Trails in the Sky'' in 2004. Set on the continent of Zemuria, ''Trails'' features a large cast of characters and consists of several games split into the ''Trails in the Sky'', ''Crossbell'', ''Trails of Cold Steel'', and ''Kuro no Kiseki'' story arcs. The series was conceived as a goal by Falcom to create the most ambitious story in video games, with company president Toshihiro Kondo considering it to be his life's work. The games were released exclusively in Asia until the 2010s, with Xseed Games handling its English localization until NIS America took over in 2019. is a series of role-playing video games by Nihon Falcom. The first ''Dragon Slayer'' game is an early action role-playing game, released in 1984 for the NEC PC-8801 and ported by Square for the MSX. Designed by Yoshio Kiya, Reprinted from the game gave rise to a series of sequels, most of them created by Falcom, with the exception of ''Faxanadu'' by Hudson Soft.
