FOSS.IN
FOSS.IN, previously known as Linux Bangalore, was an annual free and open source software (FOSS) conference, held in Bangalore, India from 2001 to 2012. From 2001 to 2004, it was known as Linux Bangalore, before it took on a new name and wider focus. During its lifetime, it was one of the largest FOSS events in Asia, with participants from around the world. It focused on the technical and software side of FOSS, encouraging development and contribution to FOSS projects from India. The event was held every year in late November or early December. Atul Chitnis
Atul Chitnis (20 February 1962 – 3 June 2013) was an Indians in Germany, Indo-German consulting technologist. He was one of the organizers of FOSS.IN (formerly Linux Bangalore), which was one of Asia's free and open source software (FOSS) conferences. Career In 1989, Chitnis set up a Bulletin Board System (BBS) called CiX which provided an entry point for many users to online communities. He was the author of a PCQuest magazine column – COMversations. Chitnis gave talks on data communication in Indian industry, the Internet and intranets. As a Consulting Editor for PCQuest, he worked on the PCQuest (magazine)#PCQ Linux Initiative, PCQuest Linux Initiative. Working as a volunteer in the FOSS community such as the Bangalore Linux User Group, and through seminars and articles, he encouraged use of FOSS technologies. Frederick Noronha
Frederick Noronha (born 23 December 1963) in São Paulo, Brazil is a journalist based in Saligão in the Bardez taluka of Goa. He is active in cyberspace and involved with e-ventures involving Goa, developmental concerns and free software. Noronha writes mostly on free software / open source issues, technology, and computing issues in India. He is the co-founder of BytesForAll and the founder of the alternate publishing house, Goa 1556. Education Frederick Noronha received a B.Com. degree from Dempo College of Commerce and Economics, Panjim, and M.A. (English Literature) degrees from Goa University and University of Bombay. Alan Cox (computer Programmer)
Alan Cox (born 22 July 1968) is a British computer programmer who has been a key figure in the development of Linux. He maintained the 2.2 branch of the Linux kernel and continues to be heavily involved in its development, an association that dates back to 1991. He lives in Swansea, Wales, where he lived with his wife Telsa Gwynne, who died in 2015 and now lives with author Tara Neale, whom he married in 2020. He graduated with a BSc in Computer Science from Swansea University in 1991 and received an MBA from the same university in 2005. Bangalore Linux User Group
The Bangalore Linux Users Group (BLUG) is a FOSS, Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) user group. History Formed in 1998, the group participated in Bangalore IT.COM 1999 (now known as Bangalore IT.in), then India's largest technology event. The Government of Karnataka gave the BLUG an entire pavilion, where it exhibited Linux-based machines showing various applications, under the motto "Seeing is believing". Over the years, the BLUG participated in a number of technology events, and from 2001 to 2004 facilitation (business), facilitated Linux Bangalore, a FOSS event with thousands of delegates from India and abroad. Volker Grassmuck (born 1961 in Hannover) is a German sociologist and media researcher.
