Futbolo Klubas Vilnius or FK Vilnius is a Lithuanian football club based in Vilnius. It plays its home matches at the Fabijoniškių gimnazijos Stadium. History FK Vilnius club as an entity was founded in January 2019. The club created a venture with Baltijos Futbolo Akademija (BFA), which had been participating in I Lyga. BFA successfully went through the licensing process in order to acquire the 2019 I Lyga license. After BFA was granted the license, it requested name change to FK Vilnius. FK Vilnius are playing in I Lyga under BFA licence. I Lyga
The I Lyga, LFF I Lyga, Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 14-16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division and the bottom 4 clubs being relegated to the II Lyga. Starting with the 2016 season, the second-placed team qualifies to promotion play-offs with A Lyga's next-to-last team. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. Baltijos Futbolo Akademija, BFA is a Lithuanian football club based in Vilnius, established as an extension of the youth football academy. History The football academy was established in 2007. The club has been participating in the Children and Youth Football Championships organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation as well as international football tournaments. The club has been organizing football tournaments in Vilnius. 2018 The BFA team took part in the LFF II lyga championship for the first time. The team finished in eighth position, and announced that the team will seek I Lyga license. 2019 The BFA did not qualify for promotion to I Lyga, however the club applied for a license anyway and after an appeal was awarded with one, having met the league criteria. 2020 LFF I Lyga
The 2020 LFF I Lyga is the 31st season of the I Lyga, the second tier football league of Lithuania. The season was planned to begin in March, but was delayed to June because of COVID-19 pandemic. The season finished on time on 31 October. Teams Team changes The last-placed A Lyga team is normally relegated to I Lyga. Since FC Stumbras had gone out of business in July 2019, no team was relegated from A Lyga in 2019. The 7th placed team in A Lyga contests a play-off match with 2nd placed I Lyga team. In this play-off match FK Banga Gargždai beat A Lyga side FC Palanga to claim a spot in the A Lyga. II Lyga
Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga – the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga. Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs. League Structure Southern Zone The zone has existed since 1999 until 2020. Kaunas County Football Federation was in charge of the competition in this zone.
