FIBA 3x3 World Championships
The FIBA 3x3 World Cup is a 3x3 basketball tournament for national teams organized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). The debut of the tournament then named as the FIBA 3x3 World Championship was held in August 2012 in Athens, Greece. The current champions are Serbia in the men's division and France in the women's division. There are two events in the tournament; one for men and another for women. In the first edition, there was a mixed event where each team was composed of 2 men and 2 women. FIBA
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA ; French: ) is an association of national organizations which governs the sport of basketball worldwide. Originally known as the (hence FIBA), in 1989 it dropped the word ''amateur'' from its name but retained the acronym. The 2022 FIBA 3x3 World Cup was held in Antwerp, Belgium from 21 to 26 June 2022. France captured their first title after defeating Canada in the final. The 2019 FIBA 3x3 World Cup was held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The tournament consisted of 20 teams. Italy were the defending champions but were defeated in the Quarterfinals by France. The women's tournament of the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup hosted in Bocaue, Philippines, was contested by 20 teams. Participating teams All FIBA continental zones except for FIBA Oceania are represented by at least one team. The top 20 teams, including the hosts, based on the FIBA National Federation ranking qualified for the tournament. FIBA announced the composition of the pools on April 10, 2018. There was no draw made and the teams were seeded based on their FIBA National Federation rankings as of the April 1, 2018 cut-off date. The top one, two, three, and four teams were placed at the top of Pools A, B, C, and D respectively. The next four teams are placed in reversed order with the top five team placed as the second team of Pool D and the top eight team designated as the second team of Pool A.
