FC Spartak Lviv
Spartak Lviv ( uk, «Спартак» (Львів)) was a Ukrainian and Soviet sports club. The club was based in Lviv, Ukraine and it contained several sports departments including football, ice hockey, others. Brief history The club was founded in 1940 in place of Sparta Lwów. Until creation of FC Karpaty Lviv, it was one of the most popular football clubs in Lviv after World War II. There existed a city derby between Spartak Lviv and SKA Lviv. In 1947 to 1949, Spartak Lviv played in the Soviet Football Championship Second Group (Vtoraya Gruppa) which was an analog of the Soviet First League. Lwowski Klub Sportowy Sparta Lwów () was a football club based in Lwów, Lwów Voivodeship, Second Polish Republic (presently Lviv, Ukraine). History There were formed in 1910, probably by the Polish soldiers of the 6th Air Regiment stationed in Skniłów (presently Sknyliv, Ukraine). Sparta was a participant of the first Polish Cup edition in 1926, in the final game they were defeated 1–2 at Wisła Kraków. Football Club Karpaty Lviv ( ) is a Ukrainian professional Association football, football club based in Lviv. History Early years (1963–68) The team of Karpaty was founded on 18 January, 1963 in association football, 1963. In 1961 Silmash Lviv won the championship of Lviv Oblast but lost its promotional play-off against Naftovyk Drohobych to qualify for the Soviet Class B championship. In 1962 Silmash Lviv won the championship and cup of the Lviv Oblast (see Lviv Oblast Football Federation) and won the promotional play-offs against Naftovyk, obtaining the rights to participate in the Soviet Class B championship (Soviet First League). SKA Lviv was a Soviet multi-sports club founded in Lviv, Ukrainian SSR. The club was created as part of sport section of the Carpathian Military District in 1949 and existed until 1989. As SKA Karpaty the club dissolved the main team was reorganized as SFK Drohobych and moved to Drohobych, Lviv Oblast (see FC Halychyna Drohobych), simultaneously FC Karpaty Lviv was reinstated as well. The Soviet First League in football (russian: Первая лига СССР по футболу) was the second highest division of Soviet football,Evgeni Kazakov. The Soviet Top League, known after 1970 as the Higher League (russian: Чемпионат СССР по футболу: Высшая лига), served as the top division of Soviet Union football from 1936 until 1991. The professional top level of football competition among clubs was established in 1936 on proposition of Nikolai Starostin and was approved by the All-Union Council of Physical Culture. Originally it was named Group A. After World War II it became known as the First Group. In 1950, after another reform of football in the Soviet Union, the First Group was replaced with Class A. By 1970, the Class A had expanded to three tiers with the top tier known as the Higher Group which in 1971 was renamed into the Higher League.
