FC Grenoble (basketball)
Football Club Grenoble Basket was a French basketball club that was based in Grenoble, France. The club is now disbanded. History The club was a section of the multi-sports club FC Grenoble. It was two-time champion of France, in 1942–43 and 1943–44. The club played in the top-tier level championship of French basketball, the Pro A, starting in 1920, and it was also known mostly for the great performances in the period between 1940–44, counting among its members several renowned players, including Robert Busnel. After the liberation by the Allied troops (1944), the club was disbanded, but the team moved with much of its workforce and was "recreated" in Lyon. The new club, with the new name of Éveil Lyon, became the champions of France in 1946. Two years later, that club would merge with AS Villeurbanne to form a new multi-sports club whose basketball section, now known as ASVEL Basket, would go on to win a record 18 French championships. Blason is a form of poetry. The term originally comes from the heraldic term "blazon" in French heraldry, which means either the codified description of a coat of arms or the coat of arms itself. The Dutch term is Blazoen, and in either Dutch or French, the term is often used to refer to the coat of arms of a chamber of rhetoric. History The term forms the root of the modern words "emblazon", which means to celebrate or adorn with heraldic markings, and "blazoner", one who emblazons. The terms "blason", "blasonner", "blasonneur" were used in 16th-century French literature by poets who, following Clément Marot in 1536, practised a genre of poems that praised a woman by singling out different parts of her body and finding appropriate metaphors to compare them with. Pierre Vincent (basketball)
Pierre Vincent (born 17 April 1964 in Brioude) is a French basketball coach. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he coached the France women's national basketball team. After coaching youth teams within the federation, he took the head of the professional women's team of Bourges Basket from 2003 to 2011, obtaining many trophies, including four titles of French champion. He then joined the men's club of Villeurbanne, then Orléans Loiret Basket, before returning to women's basketball at Famila Schio. In parallel with his club career, he was appointed coach of the French women's team, a position he held until August 2013. He won the 2009 European Championship in Latvia against Russia, the bronze medal of this competition two years later, then reached the final of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, against the United States where the French won the silver medal. The LNB Pro A, currently known for sponsorship reasons as Betclic Élite, is the top-tier men's professional basketball league in France. The competition has existed since 1921. Since 1987, the Ligue Nationale de Basket has governed the league. The bottom two placed teams from each season are relegated to the second tier level Pro B. The winner of the play-offs of the Pro A is crowned the French national champion. Competition format All 16 Pro A League teams play each other twice during the regular season. At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams qualify for the playoffs. The two teams with the worst regular season records are relegated to the 2nd-tier Pro B. Robert Busnel
Robert Busnel (19 September 1914 – 15 March 1991) was a French professional basketball player, coach, and administrator. During his playing career, the 1.92 m (6'3 ") tall Busnel, played at the power forward position. He was made an Officer of the Legion of Honor, in 1989, and was awarded the Olympic Order, by the IOC, in 1990. He was awarded the Glory of Sport in 1994. He was inducted into the French Basketball Hall of Fame, in 2005. In 2007, he was enshrined as a contributor to the FIBA Hall of Fame. Basketball playing career During his playing career, Busnel played club basketball with FA Mulhouse, FC Grenoble, ESSMG Lyon, UA Marseille, and Racing Club de France. The liberation of Paris (french: Libération de Paris) was a military battle that took place during World War II from 19 August 1944 until the German garrison surrendered the French capital on 25 August 1944. Éveil sportif Sainte-Marie de la Guillotière de Lyon or Éveil Lyon was a French basketball club that was based in Lyon. The club's name was commonly abbreviated to ESSMG Lyon. The club is now dissolved. ASVEL Basket, commonly known as ASVEL or sometimes as ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne, and also known as LDLC ASVEL for sponsorship reasons, is a French professional basketball team that is located in the city of Villeurbanne, which is a suburb of Lyon, France.
