Fuzz-wah
A fuzz-wah pedal is a stomp box containing both a fuzzbox and wah-wah pedal in series, allowing the user to distort ("wah") and use "fuzz" sounds as aesthetic effects on electric guitar or bass. They were developed to combine the sounds of psychedelic bands of the late 1960s–'70s. Origin The "fuzz" concept was accidentally created in Nashville in 1961 by a malfunction in bassist Grady Martin's amplifier during a solo on a track. The Wah-wah pedal started out as a knob that was created by a British engineer and guitarist Dick Denney in hopes that the guitar would be able to imitate certain aspects of the human voice. Later on in the 1960s, guitarist Del Casher was introduced to the sound the knob could create and thought to make it into a pedal. BOSS Corporation
Boss is a manufacturer of Effects unit, effects pedals for electric guitar and bass guitar. It is a division of the Roland Corporation, a Japanese manufacturer that specializes in musical equipment and accessories. For many years Boss has manufactured a wide range of products related to effects processing for guitars, including "compact" and "twin" effects pedals, multi-effect pedals, electronic tuners and Guitar pedalboard, pedal boards. In more recent times, Boss expanded their product range by including digital studios, rhythm machines, Sampler (musical instrument), samplers and other electronic music equipment. Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead was an American rock music, rock band formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California. John Wetton
John Kenneth Wetton (12 June 1949 – 31 January 2017) was an English musician, singer, and songwriter. Known for his dexterous bass playing and booming baritone voice, Wetton first gained fame in the early 1970s. Wetton was the singer and principal songwriter of the supergroup Asia, which proved to be his biggest commercial success. The debut Asia album sold ten million copies worldwide, and was ''Billboard'' magazine's number one album of 1982. He also performed with many other progressive rock and hard rock bands, including King Crimson, U.K., Family, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash. Del Casher
Del Casher (born Delton Kacher, 1938, Hammond, Indiana) is an American guitarist and inventor. He invented the wah-wah pedal, the Ecco-Fonic, and the Fender Electronic Echo Chamber. He was the first to introduce the Roland Guitar Synthesizer for the Roland Corporation. Life and career Casher is an alumnus of the University of Pittsburgh where he majored in communications. After college, he moved to Hollywood and was invited to perform as the guitar and banjo soloist on the Lawrence Welk TV show. At that time, he also toured with "The Three Suns", RCA recording artists who were well known for their hit song "Twilight Time". Grady Martin
Thomas Grady Martin (January 17, 1929 – December 3, 2001) was an American session guitarist in country music and rockabilly. A member of The Nashville A-Team, he played guitar on hits such as Marty Robbins' "El Paso", Loretta Lynn's " Coal Miner's Daughter" and Sammi Smith's "Help Me Make It Through the Night". During a nearly 50-year career, Martin backed such names as Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Burnette, Don Woody and Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Bing Crosby. Wah-wah Pedal
A wah-wah pedal, or simply wah pedal, is a type of electric guitar effects pedal that alters the tone and frequencies of the guitar signal to create a distinctive sound, mimicking the human voice saying the onomatopoeic name "wah-wah". The pedal sweeps the peak response of a frequency filter up and down in frequency to create the sound, a spectral glide, also known as "the wah effect". The wah-wah effect originated in the 1920s, with trumpet or trombone players finding they could produce an expressive crying tone by moving a mute in and out of the instrument's bell. This was later simulated with electronic circuitry for the electric guitar when the wah-wah pedal was invented. Stomp Box
A stomp box (or stompbox) is a percussion instrument consisting of a small box placed under the foot, which is tapped or stamped on rhythmically to produce a sound similar to that of a bass drum. A stomp box allows a performer such as a singer or guitar player to create a simple rhythmic self-accompaniment. Stompboxes are most commonly used in American folk and blues music, but they are also used across the musical spectrum. There are commercially produced stomp boxes available, but performers often simply mount a dynamic microphone inside whatever wooden box they have handy. Some homemade stomp boxes include customized features such as a built-in preamp or equalizer.
