Futsal In Spain
The Spanish futsal league is divided into divisions. The top teams play in the ''División de Honor'' (also called ''Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala''). In each division, a team plays all other teams twice, once at home and once away. The Spanish league teams compete in Europe under UEFA, most notably in the UEFA Futsal Cup with great success, being the national league holding more continental titles. The teams also compete in a domestic cup competition each year, called the Copa del Rey. The winner of the División de Honor plays against the winner of the Copa del Rey in the ''Supercopa de España'' (Super Cup). Futsal In Brazil
Futsal in Brazil is governed by the Brazilian Futsal Confederation. Although it is not the most popular spectator sport in the country, it is the most practiced. History Futsal was developed in Brazil and Uruguay around the same time, in 1934 in Uruguay and in the 1940s in Brazil. In Brazil the sport was developed by YMCA of São Paulo due to the lack of available football fields. Basketball courts and hockey posts were used to practice the sport. UEFA Futsal Championship
The UEFA European Futsal Championship is the main futsal competition of the men's national futsal teams governed by UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations). History The first tournament was held in Spain in 1996 and featured only six teams. The tournament was expanded to eight teams in 1999 and held every two years, and further to 12 teams in 2010. After 2018, the tournament was expanded to 16 teams and held every four years, to avoid leap years when the FIFA Futsal World Cup is being played. The first 16-team tournament was held in 2022 in the Netherlands. FIFA Futsal World Cup
The FIFA Futsal World Cup is an international futsal competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA, the sport's global governing body. Since the first edition that took place in 1989 in the Netherlands, the tournament has been held every four years since 1992 in the even year between two 11-a-side World Cups. The current champions are Portugal, who won their first world title after beating the 2016 defending champions Argentina in the final of the 2021 tournament in Lithuania. All events prior to 2008 were 16-team events. The first event featured 6 teams from Europe, 3 from South America, 2 from Africa, 2 from Asia, 2 from North and Central America and 1 from Oceania. Spain National Futsal Team
The Spain national futsal team represents Spain in international futsal competitions and is controlled by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. It is one of the strongest teams in the World, seven times champions in the UEFA Futsal Championship, and the two times consecutive champions of the FIFA Futsal World Cup. It has been proclaimed world champion in 2000 and 2004, and three times runner-up in 1996, 2008 and 2012. At the continental level of UEFA competitions, it has participated in the eleven disputed editions of the UEFA Futsal Championship, of which was organizer in the first two, of 1996 and 1999. It has been continental champion seven times, in 1996, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2016, being runner-up in 1999 and 2018, not reaching the final only in the editions of 2003 and 2014, where it was eliminated in the semifinals. Futsal
Futsal is a football-based game played on a hardcourt, hard court smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. It has similarities to five-a-side football and Indoor soccer, indoor football. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor soccer, it is played on a hard court surface marked by lines; walls or boards are not used. It is played with a smaller, harder, lower-bounce ball than football. The surface, ball and rules favour ball control and passing in small spaces. The game emphasizes control, improvisation, creativity and technique. Naming ''Futsal'' comes from the Portuguese ''futebol de salão'' and from the Spanish ''fútbol sala'' or ''fútbol de salón'' (all translatable as "indoor football"). The Segunda División B de Futsal formerly known as ''Primera Nacional A'' is the third professional futsal pyramid in Spain. It was founded in 1989 and is managed by the CNFS of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The ''Segunda División B de Futsal'' consists in 9 groups. Every group corresponds to one or two Spanish regions. There are in total 147 approx. teams. When finishing the regular season in every group, the top team of each group and the four runners-up with highest scores play the promotion playoffs to Segunda División. Conversely, the two or three bottom teams of each group are relegated to Tercera División. By winning the promotion via playoffs doesn't necessarily mean the promotion for the winning team. The Segunda División División de Plata is the second professional futsal league in Spain; it is within of the Liga Nacional de Futbol Sala. It was founded in the 1993–94 season with the current name. The División de Plata league, which also is played under UEFA rules, currently consists in one group of 14 teams, including teams like FS Cartagena, Futsal Cartagena, CD La Escuela, Segovia Futsal, O'Parrulo FS, O'Parrulo or ElPozo Murcia FS, ElPozo Ciudad de Murcia. *From 2011–12 season onwards, División de Plata will be known as Segunda División.
