The top 10 surnames cover approximately 10% of the population, while the top 100 surnames cover slightly more than 33%. This ranking is a result of an August 2008 study by Meiji Yasuda Life, Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Company, which included approximately 6,118,000 customers of Meiji Yasuda's insurance and annuities. Fujiko Fujima
was a Japanese dancer. She was the first woman in the field of kabuki to be named a Living National Treasure. Early life Fujima was born Kimiyo Tanaka on October 31, 1907 in Tokyo, Japan. She was adopted by the Fujima family and began studying traditional Japanese dance under Fujima Kan'emon II as a child. She took her professional name in 1926. Career In 1929 Fujima managed a dance troupe. The group went on hiatus during World War II, and restarted their activities in 1947. Her grandson, Fujima Rankoh, became the head of the group later. She also performed abroad in theaters like the Japan America Theater in Los Angeles. Fujima excelled at dances for male characters that are accompanied by tokiwazu music. Her most famous performances are ''Kikujido'' and ''Kagekiyo.'' The latter won the Education Minister's Theater Festival Prize in 1955. Murasaki Fujima
was a Japanese actress and dancer who also acted in more than 75 films. Dance career A child prodigy and daughter of the president of Nippon Medical School, Fujima ultimately became a Grand Master of the Fujima style, one of the five major schools of Japanese traditional dance, traditional Japanese dance. Following her 1985 divorce from Kanjuro Fujima, the 7th successor in the Fujima style’s lineage (whom she had met at age 12 and married in 1944), she started her own Murasaki sect in 1987. Fujima and longtime partner (and eventual husband) Ichikawa Ennosuke III, Ennosuke Ichikawa, a star of Kabuki theater, became a prominent couple in Japan’s arts community. In the 1990s Fujima portrayed China’s Empress Dowager Cixi to acclaim in a grand stage production.
