Llanbadarn Fawr, Powys
Llanbadarn Fawr is a community in Powys, within the historic boundaries of Radnorshire, mid Wales. Consisting of a tract of undulating land directly north east of Llandrindod Wells, the community consists of the settlements of Crossgates and Fron and in 2001 had a population of 654, increasing to 701 at the 2011 Census. The community name comes from the local church. History Llanbadarn Fawr was once a parish, much larger than its present-day community. In John Marius Wilson's ''Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales'' published in the 1870s, he states that "Llanbadarn Fawr", a parish in Rhayader district, Radnor; ... is divided into the townships of Brinhyfedd and Cellws; and it contains the village of Penybont". Brecon and Radnorshire ( cy, Brycheiniog a Sir Faesyfed) is a county constituency in Wales of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Created in 1918, it elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The constituency is represented by Fay Jones of the Conservative Party, who defeated incumbent Jane Dodds of the Liberal Democrats at the 2019 general election. Pen-y-Bont railway station is a railway station serving the village of Penybont, in mid Wales. It is situated on the Heart of Wales Line south west of . The station is located closer to the villages of Crossgates and Fron than it is to Penybont itself, and is now the closest station to the town of Rhayader, about 9 miles to the west. Facilities The station is an unstaffed request stop with one active platform (the disused southbound one is still visible). It is provided with the same amenities as other Heart of Wales line stations, including CIS display, customer help point, timetable poster board and payphone. A small wooden waiting shelter is located near to the information screen, with a barrow crossing linking the platform to the car park and main entrance from the A44.
