Emil Frommel
Emil Frommel (1828–1896) was a German pastor and author, born at Karlsruhe. He studied at Halle upon Saale, Erlangen, and Heidelberg, held several pastorates, served as army chaplain in the Franco-German War of 1870–1871 and in 1872 was appointed court preacher at Berlin and pastor of the garrison in that city. Life Emil Frommel was born on 5 January 1828 at Karlsruhe in the then Grand Duchy of Baden, Southern Germany. His father was director of the ducal art gallery. He studied theology at the universities of Halle, Erlangen, and Heidelberg before being appointed as vicar in Alt-Lussheim, near Schwetzingenin 1850. Four years later, he became vicar in his hometown and this was followed by a move in 1864 to Barmen in Westphalia. His next appointment, in 1869, was as pastor in the Garnisonkirche in Berlin. Gaston Frommel
Gaston Frommel (November 25, 1862 in Altkirch, France – May 18, 1906 in Geneva, Switzerland) was a French-Swiss protestant pastor and professor of theology at the University of Geneva from 1894 until his death. Life A Frenchman by birth, his family fled Alsace under German occupation in 1870 and he spent the rest of his life in Switzerland. He may best be described as continuing the spirit of Alexandre Rodolphe Vinet amid the mental conditions marking the end of the 19th century. Like Vinet, he derived his philosophy of religion from a peculiarly deep experience of the Gospel of Christ as meeting the demands of the moral consciousness; but he developed even further than Vinet the psychological analysis of conscience and the method of verifying every doctrine by direct reference to spiritual experience. Richard Frommel
Richard Julius Ernst Frommel (16 July 1854 – 6 April 1912) was a German obstetrician and gynecologist who was a native of Augsburg. In 1877 he received his medical doctorate at the University of Würzburg, and for the next ten years worked in Vienna, Berlin and Munich. At Berlin he was an assistant to gynecologist Karl Ludwig Ernst Schroeder (1838–1887). From 1887 until 1901 he was director of the department of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Erlangen. Despite a successful career in gynecology, Frommel abruptly retired from medicine in 1901 at the age of 46. Frommel is known for his pioneer work in treatment of ruptured ectopic pregnancy. A surgical technique known as the "Frommel operation" is used as treatment for retroversion of the uterus. Karl Ludwig Frommel
Karl Ludwig Frommel (29 April 1789 – 6 February 1863) was a German landscape painter and engraver, born at Birkenfeld. He studied at Karlsruhe, under F. J. Becker and Haldenwang, visited Paris, and earned a considerable reputation in Italy (1812–17). He was appointed professor at Karlsruhe where he founded the Society of Art and Industry. After a visit to London (1824) to acquaint himself with the technique of steel engraving, he opened a studio, with Henry Winkles at Karlsruhe for that branch of art. From 1830 to 1858 he was director of the picture gallery, which flourished. He was the father of Emil Frommel. In popular culture *Parodied in an episode of ''Animaniacs'', wherein he is referred to as "Karl Ludwig Frommage" in a song about cheese, along with " Vincent van Gouda" and " John Bocconcini."
