Frise (department)
Frise was a departments of France, department of the First French Empire in the present-day Netherlands. It was formed in 1811, after the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France. It was named after Friesland: "Frise" in French. It was the successor of the Friesland Department, which was formed in 1802. Its capital was Leeuwarden. Harlingen, Netherlands
Harlingen (; fy, Harns ) is a Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality and a city in the northern Netherlands, in the province of Friesland on the coast of Wadden Sea. Harlingen is a town with a long history of fishing and shipping that received City rights in the Netherlands, city rights in 1234. Raerd ( nl, Rauwerd) is a village in Súdwest-Fryslân municipality in the province Friesland, the Netherlands. It had a population of around 630 in January 2017. History The village was first mentioned in the 13th century as Rawertham, and means "''terp'' covered in reed". In the 11th or 12th century, a dike was built along the river. Raerd is a ''terp'' (artificial living hill) village with a radial structure dating from the early middle ages. The village was located near the former Middelzee. The Dutch Reformed church was built in 1814 as a replacement of its medieval predecessor. When the ''stins'' Jongema State was built is unknown, but it was destroyed in 1515 by Saxon mercenaries, however the gate house remains. Oldeberkoop (; fry, Aldeberkeap) is a village consisting of about 1,580 inhabitants in the municipality of Ooststellingwerf in the east of Friesland, the Netherlands. History The village was first mentioned between 1232 and 1233 as apud Brokope. Olde (old) was added to distinguish between Nijeberkoop. The etymology of -berkoop is unclear. Beetsterzwaag ( fry, Beetstersweach) is a village in the municipality of Opsterland in the east of Friesland in the Netherlands. It had a population of around 3,485 in January 2017. Beetsterzwaag is known for its estates and manor houses. History The village was first mentioned in 1315 as Suagh, and means "pasture with cattle belonging to ". Beetsterzwaag developed on a sandy ridge from Oud Beets. In 1684, the village already contained four manor houses, and in the 19th century was described as "a kilometre of noble houses surrounded by parks and forests".
