Frido Croes
Francisco Walfrido "Frido" Croes (3 December 1957 – 9 October 2020) was an Aruban politician and schoolteacher who held the office of Minister Plenipotentiary of Aruba from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that, he served as a member of the Estates of Aruba from 1989 to 1994, and as its President from 2001 to 2004. He also served as Minister of Education from 2004 to 2005. Biography Croes was born on 3 December 1957 in Aruba, one of the Caribbean islands of the Lesser Antilles and a country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Having obtained his havo diploma (secondary school leavers’ certificate), Croes began studying to become a teacher at the Aruban Pedagogical Academy. After graduating, he worked as a teacher for a decade at the Colegio San Jose of Santa Cruz. During the last four years of this time, he also held the position of head teacher. ''Hoger algemeen voortgezet onderwijs'' (havo, meaning "higher general continued education" in Dutch) is a stream in the secondary educational system of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Suriname. It has five grades and is generally attended at ages of 12 to 17. It provides access to the hogeschool-level (polytechnic) of tertiary education. The first three years are the ''Basisvorming'' (literally "basis formation"). All pupils follow the same subjects: languages, mathematics, history, arts and sciences. The governor of Aruba is the representative on Aruba of the Dutch monarch. The governor's duties are twofold; he represents and guards the general interests of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is head of the Aruban government. He is accountable to the government of the kingdom. As the head of the Aruban government, the governor is inviolable; the ministers are responsible. The governor does not have political responsibilities and is not part of the Aruban cabinet. During the formation of a cabinet, the governor plays an important role. Santa Cruz is a Region and Town in central Aruba, dominated by the Arikok National Park. The town is connected by Highway 7 from west to east and Highway 4 from north to south. The district has an area of 41.04 square kilometers and 12,870 inhabitants according to the 2010 census.
