''Shavei Israel'' ( he, שבי ישראל, ''Returners of Israel'') is an Israel-based Jewish organization that encourages people of Jewish descent to strengthen their connection with Israel and the Jewish people. Michael Freund (activist)
Michael Freund is an American-born Israeli political activist and non-profit executive who advocates on behalf of individuals and groups who self-identify as Jews or would-be Jews, including self-described descendants of the Lost tribes of Israel, crypto-Jews, hidden Jews, and Jews forcibly assimilated under Communist rule, and converts to Judaism, attempting to regularize their legal status as Jews under Israeli law and secure permission for them to immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return. Michael Freund (1902–1972) was a German historian and professor at the University of Kiel. Freund's view was that Louis Napoleon was the only real revolutionist in 1848. Marya Freund
Marya Freund (12 December 1876 – 21 May 1966) was a Polish-born French soprano. Career She studied violin with Pablo de Sarasate, then singing with Henri Criticos and Raymond Zur Mühlen. In 1913 she took part in the creation of Arnold Schönberg's ''Gurrelieder'' in Vienna and became the appointed interpreter of the ''Pierrot lunaire''. Her repertoire, especially that of the 20th, included Gustav Mahler, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky, Francis Poulenc, Karol Szymanowski. Leopold Freund
Leopold Freund (April 5, 1868 – January 7, 1943) was an Austrian-Jewish radiologist, considered the founder of medical radiology and radiotherapy. Leopold Freund was born in Miskovice in Central Bohemia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, now part of the Czech Republic. He died in Brussels in 1943. Freund was a professor of radiology at the Medical University of Vienna and is considered the founder of medical radiology and radiotherapy. He is the first physician known to have used ionizing radiation for therapeutic purposes. In 1896, a year after the discovery of X-rays by Wilhelm Röntgen and in the same year that Antoine Henri Becquerel discovered radioactivity, Freund successfully treated a five-year-old patient in Vienna suffering from hairy moles covering her whole back. Kurt Freund (17 January 1914 – 23 October 1996) was a Czech-Canadian physician and sexologist best known for developing the penile plethysmograph (a measurement of sexual arousal in males), research studies in pedophilia, and for the "courtship disorder" hypothesis as a taxonomy of certain paraphilias (voyeurism, exhibitionism, toucherism, frotteurism, and what he called " preferential rape"). Jonas Charles Hermann Freund (1808 – 29 December 1879) was an Austrian-British physician, known as the co-founder of the German Hospital in London. Career Born to a Jewish family in Bohemia, Freund received a medical degree at the University of Vienna. In London in 1843 he was a co-founder of London's German Hospital, which opened in October 1845. He was Physician in Charge of the hospital until about 1850.
