The Surf Ranch Pro is a professional surfing competition, currently one of the events of the World Surf League. The competition is held annually at Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California. Surfing
Surfing is a surface water sport in which an individual, a surfer (or two in tandem surfing), uses a board to ride on the forward section, or face, of a moving wave of water, which usually carries the surfer towards the shore. The Freshwater Pro 2019 was the eighth event of the Men's Championship Tour in the 2019 World Surf League. It took place from 19 to 21 September at the Surf Ranch in Lemoore, California, and was contested by 36 surfers. Caroline Marks
Caroline Marks is an American professional surfer. She is a multiple national champion and the youngest female to compete in a World Surf League event. She is the youngest surfer to qualify for the women’s Championship Tour. She competed in the elite (top 16) of the World Surf League and ended 2018 season in 7th place, becoming Rookie of the Year. She was born in Boca Raton, Florida on 14 February 2002 and lives in Melbourne Beach, Florida. On December 1st, 2019, Caroline qualified as one of the two women of the USA’s first surfing team to compete in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Johanne Defay
Johanne Defay (19 November 1993) is a French professional surfer. She was born in Le Puy-en-Velay, Auvergne, France. She began surfing at the age of 8 off the beaches of Reunion Island, which is her home today. After Johanne's first competition when she was only ten years old, she quickly moved through the European amateur ranks to eventually take on the WSL World Qualifying Series. In 2008 Defay almost gave up competing. She was finding it difficult to transition from the juniors to the WQS and then the economy crashed causing many surf companies cancel their sponsorships. At that time, Johanne found herself without sponsors and also without decent results. Lakey Peterson
Laura Louise "Lakey" Peterson (born September 30, 1994) is an American professional surfer. She has been ranked as high as #1 by the World Surf League, the highest professional level of women's surfing, and #6 on the ASP Women's World Ranking. In 2009, Peterson landed the first-ever aerial in NSSA women's competition history and won the title. Stephanie Gilmore
Stephanie Louise Gilmore (29 January 1988) is an Australian professional surfer and eight-time world champion on the Women's WSL World Tour (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2022). Career Gilmore's life as a surfer began at age 9 when she stood on a bodyboard. By age 17 she was entering world tour events as a wild card competitor, which paid off with a victory at the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast. In her next season she won another wild card event, the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic. 2023 World Surf League
The 2023 World Surf League is the 46th season of all iterations of the tour circuit for professional surfers. Billabong Pipe Masters will be the first round of the tour. For the third time, the season will end at Lower Trestles, in San Clemente, USA, with the top five seeded men and women from the season going head to head to determine the champion at the WSL Finals. Filipe Toledo and Stephanie Gilmore are the defending champions. The 2023 season will also contribute towards qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where surfing will make its second appearance as an Olympic sport. The top ten surfers in the men's final standings and the top eight surfers in the women's final standings will earn quota places at the Olympics, subject to a maximum of two men and two women per NOC. 2021 World Surf League
The 2020-21 World Surf League is the 44th season of all iterations of the tour circuit for professional surfers. After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, limiting international travel between and within countries namely Australia, Indonesia, Portugal and South Africa. The board changed the tour to a wraparound season of 2020-21, which allowed major changes to the tour schedule, with the Billabong Pipe Masters becoming the first round of the tour. The season also saw some new events introduced due to COVID-19 outbreaks and restrictions on travel within countries, notably Australia, who required surfers to quarantine in Sydney for 14 days upon arrival. Narrabeen was chosen as a replacement for the Gold Coast, while Newcastle returned to the tour for the first time in 10 years to replace Bells Beach.
