Front-end Robotics Enabling Near-term Demonstration
The Front-end Robotics Enabling Near-term Demonstration (FREND, a play on ''friend'') is a DARPA project "aiming to create a fully autonomous docking capability for satellites that weren't built to be serviced", currently under testing at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory Spacecraft Engineering Department. The FREND mission concept uses robotic arms to position a grappling tool at a customer spacecraft structural hardpoint, and docks the two spacecraft together by first rigidizing this tool, then rigidizing the positioning robotics. FREND has been described as a robotic manipulator technology "that someday could potentially deliver fuel, provide repairs, or reposition satellites." Alfred W. Fine-Resolution Epithermal Neutron Detector
The Fine-Resolution Epithermal Neutron Detector (FREND) is a neutron detector that is part of the instrument payload on board the Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), launched to Mars in March 2016. This instrument is currently mapping hydrogen levels to a maximum depth of beneath the Martian surface, thus revealing shallow water ice distribution. This instrument has an improved resolution of 7.5 times over the one Russia contributed to NASA's ''2001 Mars Odyssey'' orbiter. William Frend De Morgan
William Frend De Morgan (16 November 1839 – 15 January 1917) was an English potter, tile designer and novelist. A lifelong friend of William Morris, he designed tiles, stained glass and furniture for Morris & Co. from 1863 to 1872. His tiles often recall medieval or Islamic design patterns. He applied innovative glazes and firing techniques. Galleons and fish were common motifs, as were "fantastical" birds and animals. Many of De Morgan's tiles were designed to create intricate patterns when several were laid together. Life and work Born in Gower Street, London, the son of the distinguished mathematician Augustus De Morgan and his highly educated wife Sophia Elizabeth Frend, De Morgan was supported in his desire to become an artist. Charles Frend
Charles Herbert Frend (21 November 1909, Pulborough, Sussex – 8 January 1977, London) was an English film director and editor, best known for his films produced at Ealing Studios. He began directing in the early 1940s and is known for such films as ''Scott of the Antarctic'' (1948) and '' The Cruel Sea'' (1953). Biography Frend was born in Pulborough, Sussex, on 21 November 1909 to Edward Charles and Bertha Maud Frend. He was educated at The King's School, Canterbury and at Oxford University, where he was the film critic of ''The Isis Magazine''. Ted Frend
Edward Frend (3 November 1916 – 6 September 2006), born in South London, was a British motorcycle sports competitor from the late 1930s to the early 1950s, road racing with the AJS works team from 1948 to 1954. Early years In 1932, employed as an apprentice sheet-metal worker at Hawker Aircraft, he bought his first motorcycle, a 250 cc Dunelt. On completion of his apprenticeship in 1936, he found employment with General Aircraft in Feltham, and bought a 350 cc Ariel Red Hunter motorcycle for competition. Soon after attending the 1936 Olympia motorcycle show he part exchanged his Ariel Square Four for the just released new Vincent 1000 cc V Twin Rapide for £138 to use on the roads. In 1937 he joined the Streatham & District MCC, and competed in trials. (He later became the Club President.) George Frend
George Frend (born 1970) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Toomevara GAA, Toomevara, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Tipperary GAA, Tipperary teams. Career Frend first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Toomevara GAA, Toomevara club, winning numerous championship titles from under-12 up to under-21 level. He later won three successive Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary SHC medals from 1992 to 1994. The second of these victories was later converted into a Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship, Munster Club SHC title, before later losing the 1994 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship final, 1994 All-Ireland club final to Sarsfields GAA (Galway), Sarsfields. Frend was later part of the Toomevara four-in-a-row team from 1998 to 2001. He claimed an eighth and final Tipperary SHC medal in 2003. Nicholas is a male given name and a surname. Friendship is a relationship of mutual affection between people.
