French Ship Vaillant (1756)
''Vaillant'' was a 64-gun ship of the line of the French Navy, designed by Noël Pomet, and lead ship of her class. Career In 1772, she was under La Brizollière, and bound for Saint Domingue, along with ''Actionnaire'', ''Aurore'' and ''Sylphide''. The year after, she was at Toulon under Oppède. In 1777, she was under Chabert-Cogolin in Estaing's fleet. On 14 August 1778, along with ''Hector'', she captured the 8-gun bomb vessel HMS ''Thunder'' at Sandy Hook. She took part in the Battle of Grenada on 6 July 1779. She returned to Lorient that same year. In November, she was part of a division off Savannah, along with ''Zélé'' and ''Marseillais'', when the ships got separated. In 1780, Seillans took command of ''Vaillant''. French Brig Vaillante (1793)
''Vaillante'' was a ''brick cannonier'' (gunbrig) launched in 1793, probably at Saint-Malo. She spent the first year or so her career escorting convoys off the coast of Brittany. In May 1795 she was renamed ''Violente'', but she reverted to the name ''Vaillante'' in 1796. The British Royal Navy destroyed her in the Caribbean late in 1796. Career * Between 27 August 1793 and 9 November, she was under the command of ''enseigne de vaisseau non entretenu'' Le Bozec. French Corvette Vaillante
''Vaillante'' was a 20-gun French ''Bonne-Citoyenne''-class corvette, built at Bayonne and launched in 1796. British naval Captain Edward Pellew in captured her off the Île de Ré on 7 August 1798. The Admiralty took her into the Royal Navy as the post ship HMS ''Danae''. Some of her crew mutinied in 1800 and succeeded in turning her over to the French. The French returned her to her original name of ''Vaillante'', and sold her in 1801. As a government-chartered transport she made one voyage to Haiti; her subsequent history is unknown at this time. French service ''Vaillante'' was built at Bayonne between 1794 and August 1796, and was launched in 1796. French Ship Vaillant (1801)
''Vaillant'' was a privateer corvette launched in 1801 at Bordeaux. She made several cruises before the British Royal Navy captured her in June 1805. The Navy took her into service as HMS ''Barbette'' but never commissioned her or fitted her for sea. It sold her for breaking up in 1811.
