Fredrick Chien
Fredrick F. Chien, or Fred Chien, Chien Foo (; born 21 March 1935), is a retired Taiwanese diplomat and politician who served as the President of the Republic of China Control Yuan from 1999 to 2005. After graduating from Yale University, he assumed a series of governmental positions include Director-General of the Government Information Office from 1972 to 1975, Republic of China Representative to the United States from 1982 to 1988, Chairman of the Council for Economic Planning and Development from 1988 to 1990, and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1996. He was also the Speaker of the National Assembly between 1996 and 1999. Early life Chien and his parents originate from Hangzhou, Chekiang. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States () represents the interests of Taiwan in the United States in the absence of formal diplomatic relations, functioning as a ''de facto'' embassy. Shu Chien
Shu Chien (; born June 23, 1931 in Beijing, China), is a Chinese–American physiologist and bioengineer. His work on the fluid dynamics of blood flow has had a major impact on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis. More recently, Chien's research has focused on the mechanical forces, such as pressure and flow, that regulate the behaviors of the cells in blood vessels. Chien is currently President of the Biomedical Engineering Society. Chien was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1997 for research in blood rheology, microcirculation, cell mechanics, atherogenesis, and tissue engineering. Robert Chien, or Chien Chun (; February 8, 1929 – March 2, 2014), was a Taiwanese people, Taiwanese economist and a politician. Chien graduated from the National Taiwan University with a bachelor's degree in economics and later on earned a master's degree from the University of Minnesota. Chien Shih-Liang
Chien Shih-Liang aka S. L. Chien (; 1908–1983), was a Chinese chemist who served as the President of the Academia Sinica. A graduate of Tsinghua University and the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, he also served as President of National Taiwan University. Biography Chien was from Hangzhou, Zhejiang. After graduating from Tianjin Nankai High School, he matriculated at Tsinghua University Department of Chemistry in 1927. He won the Boxer Indemnity Scholarship Program in 1931 and went to the United States together with Wu Ta-You. Chien continued his study in chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) where he obtained M.Sc. in 1932 and Ph.D. in 1934. The Kuomintang (KMT), also referred to as the Guomindang (GMD), the Nationalist Party of China (NPC) or the Chinese Nationalist Party (CNP), is a major political party in the Republic of China, initially on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan after 1949. James Wei (; 28 August 1907 – 7 October 1982) was a Taiwanese news media executive who led the Government Information Office from 1966 to 1972. Biography Mainland China years James Wei was born in Chekiang on 28 August 1907, and he graduated from Yenching University in 1928. The Government Information Office, Executive Yuan (GIO; ) was a cabinet-level agency of the Executive Yuan of Taiwan (the Republic of China) in charge of promoting government policies and regulating domestic media. History In April 1947, the Republic of China government completed all preparations for the implementation of constitutional rule and made the transition from the stage of political suzerainty to that of constitutional government.
