Fredericksburg station is a passenger rail station in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It is served by Amtrak's ''Carolinian (train), Carolinian'', ''Northeast Regional'', and ''Silver Meteor'' trains, and the Virginia Railway Express's Fredericksburg Line. (Amtrak's ''Silver Star (Amtrak train), Silver Star'', ''Palmetto (train), Palmetto'', and ''Auto Train (Amtrak), Auto Train'' services pass through the station without stopping.) It is located on Lafayette Boulevard (U.S. Route 1 Business (Fredericksburg, Virginia), U.S. Route 1 Business). The station has two side platforms serving the two tracks of the RF&P Subdivision. History The Fredericksburg station was originally built in 1910 by the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, as a replacement for an older ground level station house. ''Auto Train'' is an scheduled daily train service for passengers and their automobiles operated by Amtrak between Lorton, Virginia (near Washington, D.C.), and Sanford, Florida (near Orlando, Florida, Orlando). ''Auto Train'' is the only motorail service in the United States. Passengers ride in Coach (rail), coach seats or private sleeping car rooms while their vehicles are carried in enclosed automobile-carrying freight cars called autoracks. The train can carry up to 320 vehicles. The train also includes lounge cars and dining cars.
