Frederick Keeton
Frederick William Keeton (26 October 1855 – 27 November 1911) was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1876 and 1880. Keeton was born in Mosborough, (then in Derbyshire but now in South Yorkshire) and in 1874 was playing for Worksop. He made his debut for Derbyshire during the 1876 season against Lancashire where he scored a handful of runs, and the game was lost. His next appearance was in the 1879 season in a game against Marylebone Cricket Club in which he was run out on six and lbw on five when Derbyshire lost by fifteen runs. Keeton made his final first-class appearance during the 1880 season, when he made his top score of nine in an innings defeat to Yorkshire. Keeton was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace round-arm bowler who played 6 innings in 3 first-class matches with a top score of 9 and an average of 5.50. Mosborough
Mosborough is a village in the City of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of Derbyshire, the village was named after The Moss river which flows through the village. During the late 19th century and 20th century, the village was noted for its steelmaking, with Hutton & Co. Sickle works being based at nearby Ridgeway. The village expanded and due to developments in nearby Owlthorpe, Westfields and Waterthorpe. Mosborough which was a township at the time was transferred from Derbyshire to the West Riding of Yorkshire as part of Sheffield. The village features a number of schools, including the Mosborough Primary School and Westfield School. Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1888 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for seventeen years and it was the first season they lost first class status. 1888 season Although deprived of first class status Derbyshire played the same opponents as in the previous year with two matches each against Lancashire, Yorkshire, Surrey and Essex and one match each against Leicestershire and Middlesex . They also played one match against MCC and one against the touring Australians. Derbyshire won three of their matches and lost the remaining nine. The captain for the year was William Chatterton who was also top scorer. John Hulme took most wickets. His total of 60 included 15 in one match against Yorkshire. Chesterfield, Derbyshire
Chesterfield is a market town and unparished area in the Borough of Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England, north of Derby and south of Sheffield at the confluence of the River Rother and River Hipper. In 2011 the built-up-area subdivision had a population of 88,483, making it the second-largest settlement in Derbyshire, after Derby. The wider borough had a population of 103,801 in 2011. Marylebone Cricket Club
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Changes to these Laws are now determined by the International Cricket Council (ICC), but the copyright is still owned by MCC. When the ICC was established in 1909, it was administered by the secretary of the MCC, and the president of MCC automatically assumed the chairmanship of ICC until 1989. Hampshire replaced Nottinghamshire as the third county to play Derbyshire, together with Lancashire and Kent. Derbyshire also played their first match against an MCC side, which was to become a regular feature. Mycroft achieved 17 wickets for 103 runs in a match which remains a record match analysis for Derbyshire. The season was clouded with the death in a railway accident of Frederick Thornhill after just one chance to play for the county. 1876 season All Derbyshire's matches were first class in the 1876 season. Bolton
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish people, Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition.
