Freddie Tomlins
Frederick William Edwin Tomlins (5 August 1919 – 20 June 1943) was a British figure skater. He was the 1939 World silver medalist and European silver medalist. He competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics and placed 10th. Military service and death Tomlins served as a pilot officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. On 20 June 1943, he took part in an anti-submarine mission aboard Armstrong Whitworth Whitley '' LA814'' with Coastal Command. During the mission, the aircraft engaged a U-boat and was shot down in flames with all aboard killed. Lambeth () is a district in South London, England, in the London Borough of Lambeth, historically in the County of Surrey. It is situated south of Charing Cross. The population of the London Borough of Lambeth was 303,086 in 2011. The area experienced some slight growth in the medieval period as part of the manor of Lambeth Palace. By the Victorian era the area had seen significant development as London expanded, with dense industrial, commercial and residential buildings located adjacent to one another.
