Fred Wanless
Fred R. Wanless (194015 December 2017) was a British arachnologist. Active in the field especially in the seventies and eighties of the 20th century, he described several dozen taxa, in particular among the spiders of the Salticidae family. Wanless played a significant role in the British Arachnological Society being its member in 1969–1973, 1974–1976 and 1986–1989, and Meetings Secretary in 1973–1978. From 1973 to 1988 he described 137 new species and 13 new genera. Career He worked at the Natural History Museum in London, dealing with the arachnid collections and at the Australian Museum in Brisbane. At the Museum Wanless developed interest in African jumping spiders while editing Doug Clark’s notes and later working on their collaborative paper. During his work at the Museum he published a number of academic papers and supervised the studies of post-graduate students. Wanless played a significant role in the British Arachnological Society being its member ...

British People
British people or Britons, also known colloquially as Brits, are the citizens of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the British Overseas Territories, and the Crown dependencies.: British nationality law governs modern British citizenship and nationality, which can be acquired, for instance, by descent from British nationals. When used in a historical context, "British" or "Britons" can refer to the Ancient Britons, the indigenous inhabitants of Great Britain and Brittany, whose surviving members are the modern Welsh people, Cornish people, and Bretons. It also refers to citizens of the former British Empire, who settled in the country prior to 1973, and hold neither UK citizenship nor nationality. Though early assertions of being British date from the Late Middle Ages, the Union of the Crowns in 1603 and the creation of the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1707 triggered a sense of British national identity.. The notion of Britishness and a shared Brit ...

1940 Births
Year 194 ( CXCIV) was a common year starting on Tuesday (link will display the full calendar) of the Julian calendar. At the time, it was known as the Year of the Consulship of Septimius and Septimius (or, less frequently, year 947 ''Ab urbe condita''). The denomination 194 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years. Events By place Roman Empire * Emperor Septimius Severus and Decimus Clodius Septimius Albinus Caesar become Roman Consuls. * Battle of Issus: Septimius Severus marches with his army (12 legions) to Cilicia, and defeats Pescennius Niger, Roman governor of Syria. Pescennius retreats to Antioch, and is executed by Severus' troops. * Septimius Severus besieges Byzantium (194–196); the city walls suffer extensive damage. Paracyrba Wanlessi
''Paracyrba'' is a genus of jumping spiders found only in Malaysia. It contains only one species, ''Paracyrba wanlessi''. Its microhabitat are the water-filled hollow internodes of decaying bamboo, where it preys for aquatic animals, especially mosquito larvae.Zhang ''et al.'' 2006 ''P. wanlessi'' and ''Evarcha culicivora'', a jumping spider, are the only two spiders that have been experimentally studied and considered a mosquito specialist. ''E. culicivora'' indirectly feeds vertebrate blood by preying female mosquitos that carry blood.Jackson, Robert R., and Fiona R. Cross. "Mosquito-terminator spiders and the meaning of predatory specialization." The Journal of Arachnology 43.2 (2015): 123-142. In general only one specimen is found per occupied bamboo internode.Murphy & Murphy 2000: 294 Description Females are up to 9 mm long, males 7 to 8. The spiders is generally dark colored. On the flattened carapace, there is a central whitish band, which is much larger in the female. ...

Tetrablemmidae
Tetrablemmidae, sometimes called armored spiders, is a family of tropical araneomorph spiders first described by Octavius Pickard-Cambridge in 1873. It contains 126 described species in 29 genera from southeast Asia, with a few that occur in Africa and Central and South America. Pacullidae was incorporated into this family in 1981, but was later restored as a separate family in a 2016 phylogenetic study. Most species have been collected from litter and soil, including that of epiphytes. Some live in caves and show typical adaptations of cave spiders, such as loss of eyes and weak sclerotization. Members of '' Tetrablemma'' only have four eyes, a trait in spiders only found in these and certain members of Caponiidae. Genera , the World Spider Catalog accepts the following genera: *'' Ablemma'' Roewer, 1963 — Papua New Guinea, Asia *'' Afroblemma'' Lehtinen, 1981 — Angola, Tanzania, Congo *'' Anansia'' Lehtinen, 1981 — Angola *'' Bacillemma'' Deeleman-Reinhold, 1993 — Tha ...

Myrmarachne Wanlessi
''Myrmarachne'' is a genus of ant-mimicking jumping spiders that was first described by W. S. MacLeay in 1839. They are commonly called antmimicking spiders, but they are not the only spiders that have this attribute. The name is a combination of Ancient Greek ('' myrmex''), meaning "ant", and ('' arachne''), meaning "spider". This genus has undergone many changes, and is still under review as more information becomes available. In 2016, several genera were split off, including ''Helicius'' and the monotypic genus ''Panachraesta''. The genus ''Emertonius'' was revalidated in 2018 after being synonymized with ''Myrmarachne'' for nearly thirty years. Description ''Myrmarachne'' have an elongated cephalothorax with relatively long chelicerae that projects forward in males. The cephalothorax has a waist, and the opisthosoma often has one too. The colors can vary from black to yellow, depending on ant species it is mimicking, and can change over the course of its life. For exa ...

Wanlessia
''Wanlessia'' is a genus of Asian jumping spiders that was first described by D. P. Wijesinghe in 1992. it contains two species, both endemic to eastern Asia: '' W. denticulata'' and '' W. sedgwicki''. It is related to ''Portia'', and is the only member of the subfamily Spartaeinae with well-developed palpal conductors. Both species only have descriptions for males. It is named in honor of arachnologist Fred R. Wanless, who described more than a dozen salticid genera from 1970 to 1990. ''Wanlessia sedgwicki'' males are about long. Both the carapace and legs are yellowish-brown, though the carapace has irregular black markings and a lighter area around the fovea. The opisthosoma The opisthosoma is the posterior part of the body in some arthropods, behind the prosoma (cephalothorax). It is a distinctive feature of the subphylum Chelicerata (arachnids, horseshoe crabs and others).
