Fred Schrier
Fred Schrier (born 1945 in Ohio) is an artist, writer, and animator, best known as partner to the underground comic book artist Dave Sheridan. Together, using the name "Overland Vegetable Stagecoach," they worked on ''Mother's Oats Funnies'', published by Rip Off Press from 1970 to 1976. Schrier's work was also featured in ''Meef Comix'' (Print Mint) and ''The Balloon Vendor'' (Rip Off Press), and the anti-Nixon comics pamphlets ''Silent Majority Comics'' and ''Uncle Sam Takes LSD'' (both published by Rip Off Press). Schrier's solo appeared in ''Slow Death Funnies'' #1 (with J. Osborne and Gilbert Shelton), published by Last Gasp, ''Skull Comics'' #1 (Rip Off Press), and '' Yellow Dog'' #19, published in 1971 by The Print Mint. And/Or Press
And/Or Press was an independent small press publisher based in the San Francisco Bay Area that operated from 1974 to 1983. The company published books on personal development, guides to the countercultural lifestyle, and consciousness expansion. A number of the company's books were on the psychedelic experience and related subjects. And/Or Press was also one of the first book publishers to embrace underground comix, publishing collections by Bill Griffith, Dave Sheridan, and Fred Schrier. The company went out of business in 1983 after a hostile takeover; co-founder Joseph Sebastian Orfali and his partner Beverly Potter immediately founded Ronin Publishing, which picked up the mantle And/Or Press had established. Jay Kinney
Jay Kinney (born 1950) is an American author, editor, and former underground cartoonist. Kinney has been noted for "adding new dimensions to the political comic" in the underground comix press of the 1970s and '80s. Kinney was a member, along with Skip Williamson, Jay Lynch and R. Crumb, of the original ''Bijou Funnies'' crew. ''Bijou Funnies'' was heavily influenced by '' Mad'' magazine, and, along with ''Zap Comix'', is considered one of the titles to launch the underground comix movement.Fox, M. Will Eisner
William Erwin Eisner (March 6, 1917 – January 3, 2005) was an American cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. He was one of the earliest cartoonists to work in the American comic book industry, and his series ''The Spirit'' (1940–1952) was noted for its experiments in content and form. In 1978, he popularized the term "graphic novel" with the publication of his book ''A Contract with God''. He was an early contributor to formal comics studies with his book '' Comics and Sequential Art'' (1985). Clay Geerdes (May 25, 1934 – July 8, 1997) was a writer, photojournalist, publisher, and teacher, who covered various events from anti-Vietnam war demonstrations in Berkeley, to productions of Freestore and The Cockettes, to the underground comics business. ''Rip Off Comix'' was an underground comix anthology published between 1977 and 1991 by Rip Off Press. As time passed, the sensibility of the anthology changed from underground to alternative comics. The Rip Off Review Of Western Culture
''The Rip Off Review of Western Culture'' was an underground comics magazine published by Rip Off Press and produced out of San Francisco, California. It published three issues in 1972. The publication was historically significant in that it brought together the work of many noteworthy underground artists and writers. Publication history J. David Moriaty conceived of ''The Rip Off Review of Western Culture'' in 1971, desiring to publish a real magazine with writing, photographs, and comics. Moriaty asked Robert Follett to serve as the magazine's editorial director, a job which entailed contributing interviews and editing the magazine. Dave Sheridan, already a well-known cartoonist and underground comic artist, was given the title of art editor.
