Fred Monk
Frederick John Monk (9 October 1920 – October 1987) was an English professional footballer and coach who played in Football League for Brentford and Aldershot. He is best remembered for his time with Brentford, for whom he made over 200 appearances and served as caretaker manager. He was posthumously inducted into the Brentford Hall of Fame in May 2015. Club career Guildford City After leaving school, Monk joined the reserve team at Southern League club Guildford City prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. After the war, Monk broke into the first team and scored 29 goals in the 1946–47 season. He scored another 17 goals during the 1947–48 season, before departing in March 1948. Brentford Monk transferred to Second Division club Brentford in March 1948 and made his debut in a 2–0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Griffin Park on 20 March. Brighton
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Archaeological evidence of settlement in the area dates back to the Bronze Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon periods. The ancient settlement of "Brighthelmstone" was documented in the ''Domesday Book'' (1086). The town's importance grew in the Middle Ages as the Old Town developed, but it languished in the early modern period, affected by foreign attacks, storms, a suffering economy and a declining population. Football League Third Division South
The Third Division South of The Football League was a tier in the English football league system from 1921 to 1958. It ran in parallel with the Third Division North with clubs elected to the League or relegated from Division Two allocated to one or the other according to geographical position. Some clubs in the English Midlands shuttled between the Third Division South and the Third Division North according to the composition of the two leagues in any one season. This division was created in 1921 from the Third Division, formed one year earlier when the Football League absorbed the leading clubs from the Southern League. In 1921, a Northern section was also created called the Third Division North. Bill Dodgin Sr
William Dodgin (17 April 1909 – 16 October 1999) was an English professional footballer who played as a left half and later served as a manager, coach and scout. Football career Dodgin played in the Football League, most notably for Clapton Orient and Lincoln City and after retiring, he turned to management with Southampton, Fulham, Brentford and Sampdoria. Dodgin later served former club Bristol Rovers as a coach, scout and manager. His final job in football was as chief scout at Eastville and he retired from football in 1981. Personal life Dodgin's son Bill was also a footballer and played under his father's management at Southampton and Fulham. Prior to turning professional with Huddersfield Town in 1928, he worked as a miner. During the Second World War he worked at an aircraft factory in Hamble-le-Rice and played football for their works team Folland Aircraft.
