Fred Harris (footballer, Born 1912)
Frederick Harris (2 July 1912 – 11 October 1998) was an English footballer who played his whole professional career for Birmingham City. Life and career Harris was born in Solihull, Warwickshire. He joined Birmingham as an inside forward in 1933 at the age of 19, and scored on his debut in a 2–1 home win against local rivals Aston Villa at the start of the 1934–35 season. He was the club's leading scorer in 1938–39 with 14 League goals and 17 in all competitions. During the Second World War he converted to play as a wing half and played out the rest of his career in that position. His strong tackling and constructive use of the ball impressed manager Harry Storer sufficiently to make him club captain. He is credited with recommending Johnny Berry to Birmingham, having seen him play for an Army team while both were serving in India during the war. Solihull (, or ) is a market town and the administrative centre of the wider Metropolitan Borough of Solihull in West Midlands County, England. The 1945–46 season was the 66th season of competitive football in England. Overview 1945–46 was the first peacetime football season since the 1939–40 season was cut short due to World War II. On 7 May (as the war was ending), it was announced that the FA Cup would be resumed, and that the 44 clubs in the top two divisions of the 1938–39 season would play in the Football League North and Football League South without promotion and relegation from the previous peacetime season. Football League North And South
The Football League North and Football League South divisions of the Football League were created temporarily for the League to continue through the Second World War while limiting the amount of movement that was required by teams. The leagues started in 1940; however there was only one full season, in 1945–46. Previous seasons were, in a sense, bit-part leagues with clubs only playing teams that were generally local.
