Fraserburgh Academy
Fraserburgh Academy is a secondary school in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. It is one of seventeen schools run by Aberdeenshire Council. The current school building was opened in 1962 by H.R.H The Princess Margaret. History Fraserburgh Academy was originally established in 1870, at a site on Mid Street, after local clothier James Park saw a gap in the town's education. The building cost £2500 at the time, and the first headmaster was William McGill. By 1903, Robert Lees was rector of the academy. It was during this time that the school building was no longer fit for purpose, due to the rising school roll. A new school building was built on Finlayson Street at a cost of £7500 and would provide accommodation for 400 pupils and was opened on 8 June 1909 by Dr Dunn H.M Chief inspector of Schools. 300-400 children followed a pipe band from the Mid Street Academy to the new school. Fraserburgh
Fraserburgh (; sco, The Broch or ; gd, A' Bhruaich) is a town in Aberdeenshire (unitary), Aberdeenshire, Scotland with a population recorded in the United Kingdom Census 2011, 2011 Census at 13,100. It lies at the far northeast corner of Aberdeenshire, about north of Aberdeen, and north of Peterhead. Aberdeenshire ( sco, Aiberdeenshire; gd, Siorrachd Obar Dheathain) is one of the 32 Subdivisions of Scotland#council areas of Scotland, council areas of Scotland. It takes its name from the County of Aberdeen which has substantially different boundaries. James Cowie (artist)
James Cowie (16 May 1886 – 18 April 1956) was a Scottish painter and teacher. The quality of his portrait paintings and his strong linear style made him among the most individual Scottish painters of the 1920s and 1930s. His work displayed meticulous draughtsmanship which was based on his studies of the Old Masters and his use of many preparatory drawings. Life and work Cowie was born on a farm in Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire into a family of non-conformist farmers. After attending Fraserburgh Academy he studied English literature at Aberdeen University but failed to graduate. After obtaining a teacher training qualification in drawing, from the United Free Church Training College, he took a teaching position at Fraserburgh Academy in 1909. He resigned this post to enroll at the Glasgow School of Art, where he completed his Diploma in two years between 1912 and 1914. Peter Noble (academic)
Sir Peter Scott Noble (17 October 1899 – 12 May 1987) was a British academic who was Principal (university), principal of King's College London from 1952 to 1968 and later vice-chancellor of the University of London from 1961 to 1964.Whitaker's Almanack 1963, p507, accessed 28 March 2015 Education Noble was educated at Fraserburgh Academy, Scotland, followed by University of Aberdeen and then St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated with a double first in classics and Oriental language. Bill Gibb
William Elphinstone Gibb (23 January 1943 – 3 January 1988) was a Scottish fashion designer who became renowned in the 1960s and 70s for his unusual and flattering designs. Early life and education Gibb was born near New Pitsligo, a small village in Aberdeenshire in Scotland to George and Jessie (née Reid) Gibb, the eldest of their seven children. Gibb, known affectionately as "Billy", was brought up by his maternal grandparents on their farm, Lochpots, near Fraserburgh. In 1960, Gibb's family bought the dairy farm at Smiddyhill in Fraserburgh, before finally settling in Netherton, in New Pitsligo. Gibb's parents retired from farmwork in 1976, and latterly ran a bed and breakfast in the village of New Pitsligo. Lewis Ritchie
Sir Lewis Duthie Ritchie (born 26 June 1952) is a Scottish medical doctor who worked as a general practitioner (GP) and medical researcher. He is the James Mackenzie Professor of General Practice at the University of Aberdeen and holds honorary professorships at the University of Edinburgh and the University of the Highlands and Islands.
