Fraser Verrusio
Fraser Verrusio, was policy director to Alaska US Rep. Don Young (R) and Policy Director for the House Transportation Committee while Rep. Young was chairman. On March 6, 2009, he was indicted for violating federal anti-corruption laws in the long-running Jack Abramoff scandals. He attended Mount Carmel High School from September 1984 to June 1986. Background Verrusio was one of the first hires Young made when he took over as chairman of the Transportation Committee in 2001 and was promoted to Policy Director in 2002. Don Young
Donald Edwin Young (June 9, 1933 – March 18, 2022) was an American politician from the state of Alaska. At the time of his death, he was the longest-serving Republican in congressional history, having been the U.S. representative for for 49 years, from 1973 until his death in 2022. Born and raised in California, Young moved to Alaska in 1959 after a stint in the U.S. Army. He worked various careers, including sailing and teaching, in the small city of Fort Yukon, where he was elected mayor in 1964. He entered state politics two years later, when he won a seat in the Alaska House of Representatives, and advanced to the Alaska Senate in 1970. In 1972, he ran for a seat in the House of Representatives against incumbent Democrat Nick Begich. Jack Abramoff Scandals
The federal investigations into Jack Abramoff and his political and business dealings are among the broadest and most extensive in American political history, involving well over a dozen offices of the FBI and over 100 FBI agents tasked exclusively to the investigation. Given the extent and complexity of the suspected corruption, an entire inter-governmental task force, involving many federal government departments and agencies, has been established to aid the federal investigation. James Hirni
James F. Hirni is a lobbyist who was convicted of bribing U.S. Senate staff aides in exchange for favorable amendments to legislation. A former aide to U.S. Senator Tim Hutchinson (R-AR), he joined the lobbying firm Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, and then became a member of "Team Abramoff" at Greenberg Traurig. He went on to become a lobbyist for Wal-Mart from 2004–08, as its executive director of Republican outreach. He was fired when charges were filed concerning his activities with Abramoff. Trevor Blackann
Trevor Blackann is an American former lobbyist who pleaded guilty in the Jack Abramoff scandal. He began his political career as a staffer for Missouri Republican Roy Blunt. As a staffer for U.S. Senator Kit Bond (R-MO), he met with Abramoff and other lobbyists in the Mariana Islands in November 2000. Abramoff charged the islands for this meeting. After leaving Bond to work as a lobbyist, Blackann went on a trip in Todd Boulanger's boat in the Chesapeake Bay. On November 20, 2008, Blackann pleaded guilty to lying on his 2003 tax returns by concealing $4,100 in gifts from lobbyists. Christopher Samuel "Kit" Bond (born March 6, 1939) is an American attorney, politician and former United States Senator from Missouri and a member of the Republican Party. First elected to the U.S. Senate in 1986, he defeated Democrat Harriett Woods by a margin of 53%–47%. He was re-elected in 1992, 1998, and 2004.
